Vehicle Detail

Note: There are several photos at the bottom of this description, in addition to the main photo at top left. Please be patient while they load... We are selling our ugly yellow Honda Civic DX hatchback. It's a great little car, lots of fun to drive, and we'd hoped to fix it up, but have too many projects and not enough funds. So we've decided to let it go. I'm going to be very up-front and tell you everything I can think of about the car, but please do examine the photos carefully and write if you have questions. And if at all possible, I would invite you to come and drive the car, and look it over carefully in person before bidding. This is a 23-year-old vehicle and it has not been restored, so please bid accordingly! The first thing you notice when you look at this little car is the paint job! It is flat yellow. (As in, rat-rod flat!) We didn't do it, it was like that when we bought the car. We thought it was pretty ugly (although it does grow on you!) but I've driven through drive-throughs where young men exclaimed "Great paint job!" Guess it's a matter of taste. The black rubber or plastic bumpers didn't hold the paint and it is flaking off, which is NOT a nice effect. The bumpers are in good shape, it's the paint that is bad. The body is fairly straight, and amazingly free of rust or repairs. I don't see any significant rust anywhere. There's a patch of pinkish bondo on the right rear passenger side, and the hood is a bit askew so it's possible the right front was bumped at one time. The back left side of the bumper isn't attached properly, the mounting bracket needs to be replaced. When we first bought the car I did get a good view of the undercarriage, when we had the tailpipe replaced, and aside from the aforementioned mounting bracket I think it looked pretty good. We didn't replace the muffler at that time, and that was probably a mistake, as it's starting to get a little noisy. The hydraulics for the back deck lid are bad and we bought replacements but never put them on, they'll be included with the car. The car handles well, is fun to drive, and is reliable. When we first got it (summer of 2010) we kept track of the mileage and it was getting almost 35 mpg. That's better than most of the new hybrids! The odometer reads 306,605. I think that is probably accurate BUT we were told the motor had been replaced, so I don't know how many miles the motor actually has on it. (Presumably, considerably less than the odometer!) That had been done before the fellow we bought it from had owned it - I think he had it for a year - and he didn't have any additional information, so that's all I can tell you. The motor runs strong and doesn't seem to have any problems other than using a little oil. It does not have an air conditioner. Also doesn't have a radio or speakers (although the wiring's all there, and the dash and doors aren't ripped apart or anything), and the heater vent assembly is missing from the center dash. The car has good heat! All the lights work, the brakes are good, the emergency brake is good; haven't had any trouble with the clutch or transmission. Little things like the hood release, gasoline filler door release, dome light, etc., are in good working order. The seats aren't in very nice shape, you'll want to replace them or get good, padded seat covers. (The front seats are currently wearing faded, cheap ones!) The battery is good, I think we replaced it in October or November. There is a crack in the passenger-side tail light cover (the light works fine). The large (cosmetic-only) shifter boot is missing, the small one that actually covers the linkage is good. That's all I can think of at the moment, but if I remember anything else I will add the information to the listing. Also, if people ask questions that may be of general interest I will add those, too. Please do examine the photos, feel free to ask questions, and again, you are encouraged to come and view the vehicle before bidding. Here are the photos, and thanks for looking!
