Vehicle Detail
Words do not describe this Bronco, but I am going to throw a lot of words at it and try. The nicest I have ever laid eyes on. Over $45,000 in receipts. I am the 3rd owner - yes, only the third owner. Originally sold in Los Angeles - came red with a 3 speed & a 289 V8. I cannot cover everything but will do my best. 302 Crate Motor from Ford Racing - plenty of power. Its not a race car, but you can light the tires up if you want. 3 Speed transmission from Art Carr - the real Art Carr in Cali; not the fake one in Texas that uses his name - If you know cars you know him. Big Holley Carb w/ Edelbrock manifold Custom Headers & engine trim is exceptional - chrome alternator, chrome engine cover. Magnaflow exhaust which is a perfect sound. Previous owner bought 3 exhaust systems trying to find the right sound. And he didn't even have a radio at all because he loved the sound that much - the build on this was just that good. Power Seats from a Lexus ES300 - Leather and super comfortable. 76 front axle w/Power Steering & Power Disc Brakes. Simpson Racing Seatbelts Completely Spray Lined by Line-X Power Windows Alpine CD with Ipod/Iphone Cord (approx 2007) - Hidden in console for a "clean" look. No amps and speakers everywhere - just enough to enjoy music over that sweet exhaust rumble or listen to a ball game. Certainly the head unit is quality enough for the system to be upgraded if desired. Custom Dash with white faced gauges from Classic Instruments - gorgeous, simple, classy, professional. Relocated MPH to right of steering wheel and RPM to left, includes temp, oil, volt, and fuel. Momo Steering wheel and custom steering column. Dual gas tanks Actual Polished Aluminum Alcoa Wheels - these are just perfect - the very best. 33x12.50 BFG All Terrains - again not too big, not to small, but just right. Rides up high, but a girl can get in and out and they fit tight in the wheel wells under the flares - none of that awful visible suspension and gaps you see on some. Optima Red Top Battery Paint is Porsche "Guardsman Red" Tuffy Console No expense was spared on the customization of this vehicle! It should be obvious that virtually every customization of this vehicle was done with this in mind: "Well, what's the best upgrade we can make? Let's do that." This customization of this truck is rare in that it has not been made to look too off-road with a winch, huge steel bumper, lights, etc. Nor has it been left stock sitting low to the ground, no fender flares, etc. It is just right - the classiest version you will ever see with clean lines and the highest quality. I looked at Broncos with no budget restrictions for over 2 years before I bought it. Just a perfect balance of custom without looking like a jeep. No big modern chrome wheels, you get the idea. Its obvious to anyone this is not some frat boy's car or a rockcrawler/mudder. It has been improved and assembled over time rather than done all at once which gives it such a natural look. I purchased this truck in 2005 in Kansas City. The 2nd owner had moved there from Cali and was retiring and too old for it. The vast majority of the work was done before I purchased it, by a guy there whose truck was on the cover of Bronco Driver Magazine. It has been an unbelievable vehicle for me and my daily driver for 10 months of the year (unless there was bad weather). In that time I have had to replace the alternator and brakes. That is it. Seriously - by far the best vehicle from a maintenance perspective that I will ever own. It has had regular oil changes and a light tune up by a local racing shop 2 years ago, but that is it. Unbelievably dependable. I have driven it for hours on the interstate at 65+ with no problems. No overheating problems whatsoever. No rattles, squeaks, oil leaks, etc. The Line-X really tightens up the body and reduces the flex so common in the vehicle. Turns heads wherever I go which is the understatement of the century This truck has been a cruiser for me. I have honestly never even engaged the 4 Wheel drive and it has never been off road since I owned it, and I am confident that the previous owner didn't either. Fayetteville, AR is a college town in the Ozark Mountains with unbelievable weather and we take it to all the Razorback sporting events to tailgate, enjoy the 2 lane mountain highways in the area, taking it to the lake, as well as cruising downtown on the weekends. I have owned Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and this truck is every bit as reliable and the ride quality is just stunning. Firm, but not rough, and no body roll at all in a corner for something at this ride height. There are 3 or 4 imperfections on the vehicle that I never fixed as they just didn't bother me and added character. The paint is chipped on the upper door hinges (driver's side), there is a slight bump on the hood by the folding windshield hinge, and another paint chip on the top of one door (pencil eraser sized). Also, there are a couple scratches on the powdercoat of the roll cage from taking the top on and off at some point - black top is included along with a tan bikini top. This is a 68, which was the last year of the removable window frames which you will notice. I have the frames and it is 6 screws to reattach, but the truck looks amazing without them to me and lots of owners buy aftermarket doors to try to achieve this look. I've been told its never been in an accident, and its pretty hard to hide it on a vehicle like this where all the panels are visible from the inside. Remember, this isn't some body off frame resto - this is an all original truck that has been impeccably maintained and things improved over time as technology allowed (suspension, engine, PS, PB, dash, etc). The truck has been used in some ad campaigns and that is what some of the pictures are from as I'm not much of a photographer. So that's not me in the pics and please don't ask about the pretty girl, lol. I will take some pics of the engine compartment and interior/backseat in the next 48 hours. It kills me to sell this truck but I have a 2-yr old and am just not getting out and enjoying it the way I used to. Vehicle is for sale locally and I reserve the right to close the auction at any time. I am not interested in any trades. Thanks for your interest and feel free to call if you have any questions - obviously I love Broncos and enjoy talking about them. Leave a message if I don't answer and I will call you back. I am on the phone constantly for work, but return calls promptly. Lex (479) 283-9545On Apr-30-12 at 10:56:03 PDT, seller added the following information: Unfortunately, I double posted the main description - I am sorry if that is confusing to anyone. The 2nd listing description has a couple of additional pieces of info and so I would just start with that. I corrected the exhaust to Gibson, not Magnaflow, etc. To answer some questions regarding the hard top & heat: Yes, there is a matching black hardtop. I would say the top is in great shape structurally, and it has been on the truck one time a couple of years ago (see the last pic on the listing- truck was not super clean when it was taken), so I know it functions perfectly - fits tight, can be driven in the rain, glass is great & clear, etc. It will leak a couple drops when driven through a high pressure car wash at the corner where the windshield, door, and top all meet, but no big deal. However, it is in nowhere near the condition of the rest of the truck and it could definitely use a new coat of paint. I just used it for a month or two when my wife had her car totaled and the new car we ordered would take a while to be built & shipped. This truck was my 2nd vehicle and spent 5+ years without a drop of rain on it outside of that situation. I greatly prefer it as a convertible so making the top look as nice was not ever a priority. The top has been stored in the garage at our lakehouse other than that, and I just want to be crystal clear about the condition. Also, straight exhaust does tend to trap a little exhaust fumes with the top on. I wouldn't want to drive it for 3 hours straight with the windows all the way up every day (although I have done it before without a problem). I drive it in the winter all the time, as we will get some 50-60 degree winter days and when I drive it I don't need the heat. The vent works, but the heater is not worth a whole lot - not sure if it needs to have the coil replaced or if its something simpler than that. Since I don't use it, I haven't investigated further, but a complete brand new heater (which I don't think it needs) is only $400 from Wild Horses:http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/product/Complete_New_Heater_Kit/Bronco_Heater_Parts It turns over in the cold 100% of the time, including below freezing, but FYI being a carburetor it wants to warm up for a minute the first time you drive it that day regardless of temperature. If you haven't driven it for several days, then fire it up and immediately throw it in drive, then it will stall like any carb. Just a minute or two at the start of the day is what I do.On May-01-12 at 07:07:17 PDT, seller added the following information: 2 new pics are up - including engine. It has not been detailed at all - It will be detailed for new buyer - but I keep it pretty clean anyway. You can see the red Ford Racing lines, Chrome alternator, polished head covers, etc. To top it off you can see the original jack instructions sticker with the complete jack and iron - it doesn't look like its ever been used. Unfortunately I have realized my maximum of 24 pictures and I cannot add any more additional pictures to the listing or replace any that are up. So send me an email request and I will gladly send the rest of the pictures to you. Sorry for any inconvenience; obviously I have never sold a car on ebay before, ha, ha. I also have a pics of the badge on the JBA long tube lifetime headers, the Alcoa wheels, and a night time picture of the Classic Instruments gauges - they really look great at night. I will try to get some pics of the interior that have been requested this afternoon as it has finally stopped raining. I also should mention that I have a box of receipts on this Bronco going back decades that I will include with the sale. The provenance on this truck's ownership is 100% documented all the way back to Los Angeles. Here is a link to Art Carr's company where the transmission is from for those that may be curious: http://www.cpttransmission.com/ He is in the Hot Rod Hall of Fame. Thanks for your interest! On May-03-12 at 14:49:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Thursday UPDATE: I cannot believe that I forgot to include this to begin with, but I have THE ORIGINAL 1968 OWNERS MANUAL that came with the truck. Pretty cool.I also have the original glovebox door that has the VIN on it. The updated dash is clean with no glove box or stereo and it has the Tuffy center console with tons of storage & the hidden stereo. The door is important because it is the only way to tie the body to the frame and have the numbers match (which this does of course). If you run the VIN it will come back exactly as the history: U15 Wagon, Red, 289 V8, 3-spd, made in Dearborn Michigan and sold in L.A. I have a box with folders of receipts that go all the way back to at least 1990 and Southern California. There is even a video (tape, lol) from the 302 H.O. Crate engine builder and the receipts from all of that work. Of course this will convey to the new owner. Also the headlights have been upgraded to Wagner Halogens. I own a bar in downtown Fayetteville, and consequently have to be down there late at night sometimes. I drive it back on the interstate at night with no concerns whatsoever. They work great and are a big upgrade over stock. A little extra info on how rare the Alcoa wheels are - they are maybe the most irreplaceable thing added on the truck. They have not been made for 15+ years and I have never seen them for sale in even remotely good condition. They are 1-piece forged - not the cast Mickey Thompson copies or Ford OEM ones. Here's a quote on the wheels on this Bronco from another source who has the same ones:"These Alcoa wheels were briefly retailed under the MT/Alcoa name approximately 15-20 years ago. After a brief partnership with Alcoa, Mickey Thompson dropped the expensive Alcoa line and went with their own similar wheel that is today 1/2 the price as what I paid 20 years ago. My wheels are 15x10 with a 5 on 5.5 lug nut pattern and came with an Alcoa lifetime limited structural warranty. These are not cast Mickey Thompson Classic II, which are identifed by the reduced thickness and larger diameter vent holes. Nor are they Ford OEM Alcoa Wheels which are clearly a thinner economy version with smaller vent holes.Cast wheels are formed from molten aluminum placed into a mold. Alcoa wheels are are made with aerospace-grade 6061-T6 aluminum which is hot forged with 50,000 lbs pressure into a billet. These billets are then precision machined into a truer, stronger and more balanced wheel with a 2000 lb rating each. This is the same technology as used to produce wheels for M-1 tanks and 747 jets. And they are Made in America."I am going to film and put a video on youtube as there have been several requests for one. I will have it up by Saturday for sure. Thanks for all the interest and like I said in the listing, I am available by phone or email to answer any questions. On May-04-12 at 05:51:01 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I have taken the reserve down to $26,000 - so when the bidding gets to that point this Bronco will find a new home. Good Luck!On May-05-12 at 14:57:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Video is up on YouTube. Please forgive my poor camera work. I am pretty embarrassed. Anyway this will give you a better idea of how cool this truck is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFTOySORbSc&feature=youtube_gdata_player There are 5 short videos.
