Vehicle Detail

1988 Ford Mustang Saleen #15 Great story behind this one. Unfortunately my friends car had gotten repo'd because of a billing snafu. We arrived at the end of a desolate road at a place called Extreme Repo which seemed a little extreme. We were actually greeted by a very nice lady who felt our pain. She guided us into the lot to retrieve our poor Yaris. My eyes popped out as this Saleen lay unattended and unappreciated. I stammered out a proposition but was rebuffed. The Saleen had belonged to the lady's father and she would never sell it. He was a veteran who had lost use of his legs. He had driven the Saleen with hand controls. She told me he was to be buried in this car and they had priced a lot big enough to hold him and the car. He wanted to be slumped over the wheel and buried with his baby. It's not the first time I heard this story. I think it's one us car guys hear often enough. She told me men used to follow him all the time and he had become wary of their motives. The Saleen was a hot commodity with the focus on hot. Fast forward two years and my tow guy, Doc, gave me courtesy call. He said, "Dan, I know you do 60s but would you ever do a 5.0 because I am looking at a Saleen mustang in a repo yard in San Jose?" I said, "Doc, is it blue? With bald tires and an automatic?" to which Doc responded, " Who the hell are you and how do you know this?" I said, "Doc, I definitely want that mustang and I will meet you down there." So yeah, that's the funny story. What I have for you here is a great fox body project. These are the Shelby's of the future. I can see young guys hunting them now. What I have for you here is an unusual automatic Saleen mustang #15 in dark shadow blue. It runs and drives and there is a receipt for a $1500 AAMCO tranny rebuild. It does shift hard and is nimble and quick. It's kinda nice to have an automatic. Let's you be a little lazy and enjoy the ride. We had some tires dug up and installed and I had no idea that these tires were getting hard to find at a good price. Also had the fuel pump, starter, couple hoses, and oil changed. She's running nice but the alternator will need to be replaced and the oil pressure gauge goes to the 2nd tick after warm up. I believe the exhaust was hyped up and she has a nice roar and rumble. This speedo is stuck and so is the odometer. Maybe the AAMCO guys? I like the red seat because doesn't ever body want some time on the red carpet. Yup, I guess everybody gets their 15 minutes of fame and #15 your time is now.
