THE STORY: You are bidding on a single-owner 2002 Volkswagen Golf TDI. Purchased new in 2002, my dad used this car primarily to commute around West Texas for his business. The majority of the miles are highway miles, and while it has gone quite a few, it's sure to go for many more. This auction has NO RESERVE, so the high bidder gets to drive it home! I recently had some good results from selling my own vehicle (item #200732514376), so my dad has asked me to help him sell his. Here's what he has to say about the vehicle: MECHANICAL: Mechanically, this car is in pretty great shape. It's had all scheduled maintenance done at the same dealership where it was purchased. In addition to the scheduled maintenance, I had the clutch and flywheel replaced at 326K miles, the glow-plugs and glow-plug harness replaced at 333K miles, and the AC compressor/drier/seals replaced at 300K miles. It's about time to change the timing belt again, but I'm a new grandpa and haven't gotten around to it yet. This probably needs to be done within the next 10K miles. Also, the seat-belt sensor needs to be replaced (which I've done twice before...part is about $70). Over the past 10 years, I've changed the oil and filter religiously every 5,000 miles using 5-30 Castrol full synthetic oil. One of the best things about this car is that since it's a TDI, the mileage is amazing – the worst it's ever had was 41MPG, while the best it's had was 52 MPG!! In town and highway driving will average 45-48 MPG. COSMETIC: Exterior – The road-wear is in line with what you'd expect on a car with over 300K miles. The paint is not perfect and there's a minor ding on the left rear quarter panel, but the car has ZERO RUST on the frame and body. The front windshield is cracked along the bottom, but I had a trusted windshield repairman work his magic to stop it from cracking further. The windows have a nice tine on them, and I installed wind-guards on the doors so I can drive around with the windows cracked. Be sure, however, that the AC blows ICE COLD. The front tires have about 50% tread left, and the rear tires a little less than that. The chrome exhaust tip shines up really nice, as does the rest of the car. All in all, it's a good-looking car that the next owner will be pleased with. Interior – This is a non-smoker vehicle. I've always had a dash-cover on the dash, so it's never even seen the sun! The car has the factory cloth mats, though I had those covered up with rubber ones for most of the life of the car. It's got a Sirius Satellite Radio custom installed, as well as the VW AM/FM, Cassette & CD Player. The fabric is a little loose on the doors, but there's no tears and the back seats are like brand new. As with the exterior, the car has miles on it but is in good shape for what it is. Everything works great – lights, signals, wipers, keys, alarm, etc. FINALLY: The car is being sold as-is and I've described it exactly as it comes. It's been good to me, and the guys at the dealership told me I could put another 300K miles on it if I wanted to. The truth is, however, that grandma got a new Passat so that's become our vehicle of choice. If you have ANY questions at all, don't hesitate to email me.
