Vehicle Detail

You are looking at an all ORIGINAL 1 Owner 1972 Mercury Cougar Deluxe 2 Door Hardtop. This is a very unmolested, low mile, good running and driving original paint survivor car that needs a fairly simple cosmetic restoration. It is a very well equipped example and is a worthy candidate for a very straight forward cosmetic restoration. This 1972 Mercury Cougar hardtop is an ORIGINAL Medium Brown Metallic Brown H-code 351C-2V car that is factory equipped with a FMX Automatic Transmission and connected to a bullet proof 9 inch 2.75 geared rear end. This car is well equipped and documented as such per the Marti Report. It was ordered in the Los Angeles, CA Sales District (DSO 52) when new and it was a retail Dealer Stock order that was sold NEW at Pascal Dilday Lincoln Mercury Inc in San Diego, CA. This ORIGINAL California Cougar was further equipped with these other factory optional/featured items to include: Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Whisper-Aire Air Conditioning, Tinted Glass, E78x14 WSW Tires, Tilt Wheel with Deluxe 2-spoke Steering Wheel, AM Radio, Decor Interior, Full Floor Console, Appearance Protection Group and Color Keyed Racing Mirrors. The door tag info is as follows and as listed on the Deluxe Marti Report BODY 65D = Cougar 2 door Hardtop Color 5H = Medium Brown Metallic Paint Trim CF = Medium Ginger Clarion Knit Decor Bucket Seat Interior DSO 52 = Los Angeles, California Ordering district Axle 2 = 2.75 Conventional Axle with 9 inch ring gear Trans X = FMX Automatic Transmission This car still has it’s ORIGINAL PAINT and INTERIOR!!! There is some rust in the passenger lower rear 1/4 panel; but being that the car originated from California it is relatively minor. The Fenders, Hood, Doors, Trunklid, and 1/4's are all for the most part rust free with the exception of the aforementioned passenger lower quarter panel. The floors and rails are all very nice on this car as you would expect of a California car!! Overall this car is a VERY SOLID car in, out, and underneath!! The car does have a couple of bumps, bruises, and scrapes that you would associate with a 40+ year old car that has been driven over 100K miles; but being as how the car is still in it’s ORIGINAL PAINT there will not be any surprises under old bodywork and a poor repaint to deal with. What you see is what you get! The car has been sitting for several years now, though it is started and moved occasionally to keep things lubricated. The Power Steering is smooth and precise with out the usual slop these cars can get with a lot of rough road miles on them. The Power Disc Brakes still have a good feel to them. The car starts right up and runs good. Transmission drops right into gear and upshifts/downshifts through the gears smoothly as it should! The wipers, horn, heater and blower work as they should, the lights and turn signals all work and blink as they should. The Air Conditioning is completely intact and still sealed; however the belt is off and I believe it to need an A/C Clutch on the compressor. The optional Tilt Steering wheel functions smoothly; as designed and the AM Radio still works flawlessly. There are no headers, no aluminum intakes, cut up dash’s with aftermarket radio’s, door panels and package trays with speaker holes in them……Just a good clean original unmolested car. It still wears it's ORIGINAL 6 digit Blue & Yellow California Plates!! I do also have several pieces of the original dealer's selling paperwork on the car as well. This is a very nice unrestored and mostly unmodified 1 Owner ORIGINAL California Cougar 2 Door Hardtop that is a fairly well optioned car. The car has been sitting for a couple years waiting its turn for an easy cosmetic restoration; so it will need a little TLC before I would call it an everyday driver. But it is a torn key car right now!! You can drive this car just as it sits with just a minimum amount of work and have your own ‘barn find’ survivor at the cruise in; or give this car the easy cosmetic make over that it deserves and have an awesome Classic Cougar to show and shine!! It would be an absolutely gorgeous car when finished in a fresh topcoat of Medium Brown Metallic on it. With a nice equipment list and being such an original car it is sure to be quite the head turner and conversation piece! I have too many projects and need to thin out the herd some. This Cougar really needs to be in the hands of someone who can get to work on it and give it the easy cosmetic restoration it deserves. The 15X7 Magnum 500 wheels on this car are off of another car of mine and being used for photographic purposes only. Thus they are not included with the car as a part of this auction. The Cougar will be fitted with its original steel rims and hubcaps prior to shipment/delivery. I will be auctioning some of my other Ford and Mercury Musclecars soon so that I can focus on some of my stalled/backlogged restorations. So please watch for my other auctions!! I do have this Cougar listed elsewhere and as such reserve the right to end the auction at anytime. Please look at the pictures and ask any questions BEFORE you bid!! I want you to be sure of what you are bidding on and for us both to be satisfied with the Cougar's described condition and its sale. I expect a $500.00 deposit at auctions end and the balance of payment within 7 days of auction end. This 1972 Mercury Cougar is a 40+ year old unrestored car and as such is being auctioned 'as-is, where-is' and 'as-described' with no warranties either expressed or implied. I have described this 1972 Mercury Cougar accurately so please read the auction text and look at the pictures carefully and make sure this is what you want before bidding. If you are not sure please do not bid. I take my auctions seriously and so should you. Good Luck and Happy Bidding More than just a pretty picture. Try Vendio Image Hosting.
