Vehicle Detail
Adult owned, garage kept, low mileage 2005 Mazda RX-8 Sport 6-speed. All regular maintenance performed, including spark plug, ignition coil and wire replacement at 35k miles. Also has recent new tires all around with less than 10,000 miles on them. (Continental Extreme Contact DWS--very high ratings on Tire Rack and good real-world tires.) Car is completely stock except for a re-usable K&N filter in the stock airbox, clear side markers up front, and Racing Beat screens for the oil coolers and radiator (all by the previous owner), Magnecor plug wires, and an aftermarket iPod adapter for the stereo (both by me). No modifications to the engine or suspension. Low mileage on car reflects the fact that it was primarily a weekend toy for both me and the prior owner. My kids never ate or drank in the car, so the interior is like new. Exterior shows some signs of wear, mostly along the front facia. I've included pictures of the worst bits. According to the CarFax, the car was involved in a minor accident shortly after delivery to the original owner. I've never been able to find any signs of damage, so whatever it was appears to have been repaired properly. Internet lore notwithstanding, I find that the car gets acceptable mileage. It gets about 18 around town and 22-24 highway depending on how aggressively I drive. I average about 19-21 in mixed driving. I recently took a trip that was a little over 300 miles and 80% highway. I got 22.7mpg, which is about what you'd expect given the car's original EPA ratings of 18/24 (revised to 16/22). The key to the mileage seems to be driving responsibly and keeping up with the plugs/coils. Car's handling is nothing sort of phenomenal, and I say that having owned some of the best handling cars ever built (Miata, M3, Focus SVT, Integra Type R, etc.). I love the car, but other demands recently dictated the purchase of a full-sized truck, so this one has to go. On Mar-15-12 at 08:53:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Editing to add a few things: 1. Tires are actually Extreme Contact DW (Ultra High Performance Summer) not DWS (Ultra High Performance All Season). This was just a typo on my part. I meant to say DWs, i.e., plural, not DWS, which is a different tire. 2. Car is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early so long as the reserve is not met. Once the reserve is met, it'll sell here.
