Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a Used, non-running, vintage, mostly complete and original 1980 Honda CR80R ELSINORE motorcycle. This is the first model year of the CR80R. I am listing this bike "As-Is" with No warranty or guarantee for a friend who received this as collateral for a cash loan to a customer of his who was not able to repay the loan. It is color red with black seat with red "CR80R" logo. Motorcycle has an 80cc 2-stroke reed valve, air-cooled single cylinder engine with a 6-speed transmission. The suspension is a steel tubular swingarm with twin rear shocks. The fuel tank is steel. The bike does not have a "bill of sale", and I honestly don't know the history of this bike or the mileage on it since the previous owner/s are not known and the serial numbers have been ground off the frame and engine(as seen in picture), which was done awhile ago since the exposed surface is slightly oxidized. I was able to determine the model year of this bike without the serial number by researching MOTORERA.com/honda/h0080/cr80 and cyclechaos.com/wiki/Honda_CR80R , both of which gave specific details of the bike that led to it being a 1980 CR80R Elsinore. The bike does appear to have been stored properly inside away from the elements since there is NO major weathering with the bike in good, clean condition. The bike frame, swingarm and handlebars all appear to be good and straight ; the front forks appear to be straight with no leaks, just a few very slight pit marks on the upper chrome tubes(not in the travel area) and some slight oxidation on the lower aluminum tubes ; the wheels appear to be straight with very slight pitting on the chrome, and the tires still have good tread and are holding air ; the fuel tank is very clean inside with NO rust from having been stored properly with NO fuel, but there is 1 very small dent and 2 very tiny dings on the side of tank along with some very minor scratches in a few places ; the seat has NO rips, but there is a very small tear at the rear lower seam ; the fender has NO cracks or scrapes ; the OEM exhaust has NO dents or rot ; the carburetor is very clean inside with the slide and float moving freely ; the engine covers and footpegs do NOT have any scrapes or excessive wear on the sides ; the rear shocks appear to be in good working condition ; the kickstand is NOT bent ; the cables all appear to work properly with NO kinks or binding ; the front and rear brakes appear to engage and disengage properly ; all the red paint is in good condition with NO major rust or scrapes, just average minor scratches and chips for a bike of this age. This bike is mostly complete with the following few parts missing: Left and Right side number plates ; rear fender ; air filter cover, air filter holder cap and band, and air filter ; exhaust spring ; choke knob. These parts were missing from the bike when I received it, and I have no means possible to contact the previous owner to ask the whereabouts of the missing parts. The engine did initially have good compression, which I was able to get running by only having to add the correct 2-stroke fuel mixture, but after approximately 15 minutes of running, the engine died out and there was no compression remaining. I took off the carburetor and reed valve to inspect the cylinder and piston, which both still seemed good with no heavy scoring as far as could be seen, but it appears that the piston ring had cracked. I also checked the ignition and carburetor, both of which were operating properly. While the engine was still running, there was a bearing noise or possibly a clutch noise coming from the bottom end of the engine, and the clutch was not engaging properly, even after trying to adjust the clutch cable, so the engine will need some work in addition to the piston ring. A few of the crankcase bolts were replaced with incorrect size bolts that partially damaged the threads, which I have since carefully installed the correct Metric size bolts to avoid stripping-out, and all are holding, but the threads may need to be chased with a tap. There is some silicone sealant along the crankcase halves, so it appears that this was a quick fix for a crankcase gasket leaking oil. The foot brake pedal and rear brake rod were slightly bent, which I straightened out and adjusted the rod for the rear brake to engage properly. The kickstarter does not return fully to the upright position, and the clutch return spring does not return the clutch lever to its correct position, which may be the cause of the clutch not engaging properly as mentioned earlier. I have described this bike as honestly and to the best of my ability as possible, but there still might be something that I may have missed. More pictures can be emailed upon your request, and please ask any questions which I will answer promptly before the end of auction. There is NO reserve on this auction, which is starting at a low opening bid for a clean, vintage Elsinore bike needing some engine work and a few cosmetic parts. Shipping is NOT provided, pickup from northern NJ preferred, but I can possibly meet bidder halfway or deliver this bike to winning bidder within 50 miles, one-way from Nutley, NJ for the cost of gas in cash to and from meeting point. Please contact me to arrange these details before the end of auction. I can possibly prepare the bike for shipping if the winning bidder arranges for the shipping cost and details, but please contact me prior to the close of auction to discuss. Money order is preferred, Paypal is accepted, or cash / money order upon pickup from or delivery to an agreed upon public place or winning bidder's reasonable choice of a meeting place. This bike is being sold by mature, responsible, and trustworthy adults. This bike is NOT being sold locally, so auction will run the full 7 day listing until a winning bidder results, and NO ending auction early so please do not ask. The winning bidder will receive the exact bike pictured in the listing in "As-Is" condition, with the bike being completely reassembled from my limited attempt to diagnose the engine's loss of compression. The pictures of the carburetor and piston/cylinder show the condition of these items as found after I removed the carburetor in order to inspect the cause of the engine problem.
