Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a 1969 Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 428 Mach 1! Now is your chance to own a Candyapple Red manual transmission Super Cobra Jet! I have been saving this car to be restored for a few years. My wife and I are expecting our first child in a couple months and I think it's time to pass on this project to somebody with more time than myself. When properly finished, this car will probably be worth approximately $80,000! The car is originally a Candyapple Red, with the Mach 1 blackout hood treatment, and a white interior that rolled off the assembly line December 2, 1968. It has the highly desirable manual transmission and the optional 3.91 axle ratio! This car was lightly optioned and built to go fast in style! A lot of times, these cars were ordered lightly optioned to take to the drag strip for racing! This is one of the most powerful 1969 Mustangs offered (other than the ridiculously expensive Boss 429). The body of the car is in very good condition for a non-restored 40 year old Mustang. It was repainted years ago to the current Black Jade, but its original colors are shining through in a few spots. I have not tried to hide anything under spraypaint or undercoating, the car is as I received it. The frame rails are in good condition, front and rear. The aprons have the usual four spots of rust where they meet the upper shock tower (where the fender sits). This car will need some work on the trunk floors, lower quarters and maybe some patching of the outer wheelhouse. The floors will need some patching, but I'm pretty sure the 4 grooves in the front section of the floorpan can be saved, looks like most likely from the seat platform back. The upper section of the driver's side torque box and floorpan extension will need some work, but the lower section looks strong. A previous owner enlarged the shifter hole for the shifter the car currently has (no problem if you're planning on using the same shifter). The fenders, doors, hood, and trunk lid need minor rust repair or replacement at your discretion. The wrap-arounds and rear shock plate are all there and in good condition. I had the opportunity to get a correctly dated engine a few years ago, so that is included as well. The engine is a 8J11 block (September 11, 1968). It is bored .060 over and is not rebuilt. The rotating assembly is a CJ rotating assembly, including crank, rods, pistons, and spacer. The heads are the "N" 428 CJ/SCJ heads. A 428 CJ/SCJ intake is included as well. Also included in the engine is the camshaft, lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, springs, valves, oil filter adapter, oil pan and motor mounts, including the steel pieces that bolts to the block. Also, there is a correct original water pump with correct casting #s. The transmission, bellhousing, and driveshaft are there. The tag on the transmission is missing, but it is a "large input shaft" toploader with the "C7" casting, so I'm assuming it's the correct one, as it did come with the car. Some sort of aftermarket shifter is included and looks complete. A 9" rear end is under the car, but it is not the 31 spline with nodular case. These parts are fairly easy to obtain, if you need help finding something, let me know. The interior is fairly complete with most of the hard to find, expensive parts. The woodgrain instrument panel with tachometer and clock are there. A very complete original condition 3 spoke steering wheel is included as well. It looks like it can be used without restoration! The door panels will need to be replaced, but the hard to find woodgrain panel and moldings are there. The seats are high back seats with the lever down low. The interior quarters are in good condition and the back seat is complete, including package tray. The lower dash and glove box is in good condition. The dash pad has holes cut in it for additional gauges, but you will probably want a new one anyway. The headliner was sagging and ripped, so I removed it, the headliner rods are still in place though. The moldings that go between the package tray and sail panels are included. The front drum brakes are present and intact, as are the rear. This car still has the original rear leaf springs (casting # C9AZ-5556-G). All glass is present and in good condition, including the windshield. The driver's door glass fell out of its brackets and is in the trunk. All moldings are there, including the roof rail moldings. As far as extras, both horns (on the same side!) and the lower oil cooler bracket is there. The clutch/brake pedal assembly is there as well. All the wiring is still in the car. Overall this is a highly valuable car worth restoring. Starting with a straight body is key, as most of these cars have rust in one way or another. Most of the parts you need to make the restoration successful are included. The last picture is what this beast would look like when properly restored. I have a Marti report and clean Pennsylvania title from the previous owner. I'm sure I missed something. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me before the end of the auction. I tried to address all aspects of the car, if any additional pictures are needed, I would be glad to send them to you. I have restored a lot of Mustangs over the last 10 years. If you have any questions about restoring this car, please let me know. I can help the put the winning bidder in touch with a few contacts for parts or restoration help, if needed. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
