Vehicle Detail
2001 Quigley E-Series Econoline conversion van. Triton 5.4 V8 OD transmission, 58,000 original miles Let me begin with a quick history on how I came to own this van. My wife and I stumbled across a deal of a lifetime on a travel trailer so we sold our motorhome. The problem was we had no way to tow it with our small SUV (Ford Escape) and my pickup couldn’t haul our gear, dog, and 6 people, so my search began. Even a crewcab pick-up wouldn’t be big enough, I didn’t feel comfortable with a 1/2 ton platform SUV (Expedition) and the Excursion was just too big... so a van was the ticket! After doing a ton of homework I found that the Quigley van was THE BEST way to go. The bumper to bumper length is shorter then a pick-up, but the wheelbase was 6" longer (longer track=smoother ride, shorter length = easier to maneuver) The 3/4 ton chassis could handle the weight, but still provided a comfortable ride (forum after forum guys complained about the harsh ride of the E350) I did not want the extended van due to the long overhang between hitch and rear axle (Forum again said it gave too much "teeter-totter" effect) The Quigley 4WD gave 2 big bonuses.... 1st obviously 4WD for any terrain or muddy campsite, AND 2nd, and extra 500# up front to keep the steer tires planted firmly on the ground! not just for towing a camper but any trailer this van will work fantastic. I was torn between gas vs. diesel... MINE IS NOT DIESEL, I chose gas because of $ honestly, I couldn’t justify the higher initial cost, I change my oil 3-5000 miles regardless so the $100+ for a diesel oil and filter vs. $30 at Jiffy Lube on the gasser was a no brainer, Gas is easier to find and costs .50-65 cents less per gallon. I know the diesel would have more power but I have had NO trouble hauling our gear, 5-6 people and pulling a trailer at 75mph. I know the diesel would be better on fuel but 2-4 mpg vs. 50+ cents per gallon more... is the same $ at the pump, I just have to stop more often (with a bunch of kids and my own small bladder, stopping isn't a bad thing) and finally it boils down to this... I have no intentions on putting 200K miles on my vehicle, with proper maintenance the 5.4 will last at least that long anyway, but gas or diesel other then the engine itself the rest of the driveline, transmission, frame, suspension, tie rods, bearings, body, glass, electrical components, tires, brakes, shocks, exhaust, etc etc etc... will wear and break the same GAS OR DIESEL. Recent upgrades include Accel Coil Packs and Platinum Plugs Monroe coil over "load adjusting" shocks in the rear New brake pads in all 4 corners calipers up front, rotors in the rear Tires 265-75-16 BF Goodrich A/T The van has 4 Flex-Steel captains chairs and a rear bench that converts to a bed. Overhead lighting, Window shades and tinted glass, wood trim, Pioneer CD player Navigation and back-up camera (camera comes on automatically when you shift into reverse, or you can manually turn it on for security) A/C and Heat front and rear, Large 12v TV and 12v VHS player with overhead external speaker or earbud jacks. power seat. power windows, power locks, power mirrors, towing mirrors, cruise, tilt, ABS, Air bags, 2" Class 3 receiver hitch, 7 & 4 prong trailer plugs, brake booster, CB hook-up, intermittent wipers, power points front and rear, Lots of storage (hangers, magazine rack, pouches and pockets everywhere) The exterior of the van is a 8 out of 10, in car guy talk a "10 footer" the paint shines, its straight, clean, ... but NOT perfect. it has some minor scrapes and a few little dings. The Interior is a 6 out of 10, it is not dirty, not stained but "dingy" It also has a few small rips but is complete and I am sure a professional could shampoo it to make a world of difference. keep in mind I am fussy so check out the pictures for yourself. THE BAD: I had put a K&N filter on the van and "over oiled it" while towing the camper with 5 people and a dog up a steep hill the check engine light came on... was code 171 174 after some checking I found what happened is under the load the engine sucked the oil from the filter into the MAF sensor and fouled it. I've since put a paper filter back in the air box, but on occasion the "service engine" light comes on with those same codes. I think the Mass Air Flow will need to be replaced. The previous owner did construction and used this van as a truck. the area behind the bench seat (Cargo area) is a 1 out of 10, torn, stained, just beat up. The horn doesn’t work I am NOT a dealer, I have no intentions on sugar coating anything to "make the sale" PLEASE contact me with any questions and I highly suggest you come take a look, and drive it. Call me for any details or directions 610-509-6583 But please not before 8am or after 9 pm Thank You If you need it shipped I will help in anyway possible. On Feb-04-12 at 15:19:49 PST, seller added the following information: Feb 4 2012, I forgot to mention when I first listed the van... I have all the original paperwork about the Quigley conversion, (complete itemized list, part #'s etc) I installed a brand new battery in the van about a week ago with a 3 year replacement warranty from Sam's Club You can remove the bench seat, and rear 2 buckets in about 10 mins... and haul 4X8 sheets of plywood, drywall, etc To Sweeten the deal.... I have added a picture of the van with a set of American Racing 10X16 Alloy wheels and 285/75/16 (33's) Sport King A/T steel radials. They have at least 75% tread left and look alittle more agressive on the van. IF BIDDING HITS $14,000 + I will throw them in with the sale!
