Vehicle Detail
1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible Rocket 350 Gold Block V-8, 4 Barrel Carb, Dual Exhaust, Power Steering, Power Brakes, 3 Speed Auto with floor shift and 90,500 original miles. Car is believed to have matching #’s for the engine and transmission. Burgundy metallic paint, black interior with bucket seats. Good running, no major mechanical issues and minimal rust. 15-year old convertible top with 2 tears, 1 on each side where the top folds, electric motor works with a nice boot. Olds rally wheels with new, (3,000 miles) Tiger Paw GTS tires. Original factory air condition installed, but not working. Great driver quality 70’s muscle convertible with a strong motor. I purchased the car in Tampa in March of 2001 and it had 75,000 miles. I believe I am the 4th owner; the previous owner had it for 2-years and bought it from someone in Tampa who had it for 10-years who did the body work and repainted with burgundy metallic paint. It is believed he bought the car from the original owner who also was in Tampa. It is not known if it was an original Florida car, but with the lack of rust, I believe it is. The following are the know dates of work done: Previous Owners 1996_New paint, body work and convertible top 1999_New exhaust 1999_New interior carpet I only drive the car in the winter and it has always been garage. I haven’t had the top up in the last 6-years but did just recently and it works fine. The car is also been started and driven twice each month in the summer so I can access my lawn mower and I have always kept fresh gas in the tank. The following is a list of items that I had done over the years, there have been may more maintenance items, oil changes / belts / hoses ext., but these are the bigger ones that I still have receipts for; When I first purchased the car; 2001_New fuel tank, filler neck and straps, stainless steel fuel lines, fuel pump, new fan / fan clutch / radiator / water pump, new custom radio / cassette player, new brake rotors, pads and rear drums / power brakes vacuum line replaced 2002_New trunk line and spare tire cover, new convertible top switch, refurbished electric motor, new fan blower motor 2004_Electronic ignition module 2005_Turn signal switch assembly / new horn 2006_New battery and starter 2008_New Tiger Paw GTS tires, new ball joints and tie rod ends, new shocks and front wheel alignment 2011_New battery and alternator If you would like to test drive the car in Tampa, that would be great. Just e-mail me and we will set up a date / time. Thanks for your interest On Feb-01-12 at 18:48:51 PST, seller added the following information: 2012-01-31_Questions I have had a few questions concerning my auction; RESERVE- The bidding is very close to the reserve price now and with 3-Days to go I’m sure it will be met. If the reserve has not been met by Friday Feb 2nd, I will remove the reserve; My Cutlass will be sold to the highest bidder. INTERIOR ORIGINALITY- I believe the majority of the interior is original. The carpets were replaced in 1999, and are now faded. There are no tears or holes in the carpet. The steering wheel has been replaced at some point with a “GT Grant” wheel and is showing wear. I have included a picture, so look for yourself. It is smaller, but I think it drives better with a smaller steering wheel. The horn does work. The driver’s seat has a couple of split seams, each about 3 inches long. The padding in the driver’s seat is worn. All the other seats would rate a “B” condition. The door cards are showing wear with a few scuffs and faded carpet, but the wood grain inserts look good. After market speakers have been cut into the door cards, just below the window crank. On the passenger side, the speaker hole is damaged, with the surround carpet torn. New door cards on both sides would improve the interior. The radio was replaced with a “Period Correct” AM / FM / Cassette from Year One in 2001 and there is a few scratches in the wood grain inserts around the radio. The center console wood grain insert looks good with no scratches or damage, but the blue plastic shifter plate seal is missing. The rear view mirror has some clouding on the edges. All the interior lights, gauges, switches, wipers, turn signals, speedometer work except the clock. I always wanted to put a tach in place of the clock, so I never fixed the clock. The sun visors are in good shape. The trunk has no rust on the floor and has a new liner and spare tire cover. There is no jack with the car. EXTERIOR CONDITION- I believe the photographs I have used are a good representation of the condition of the exterior of the car. My Cutlass is better than a 20-footer, with all of the blemishes, scratches, paint chips or rust bubble being very small. The paint has not faded at all and still sparkles in the sunlight. The convertible top boot is in good shape and stays properly in place. As previously mentioned, the convertible top has two tears and the rear window has some bubbles where the tinting is coming off. The photos do show these conditions. MECHANICAL CONDITION- There are two know mechanical issues that you may want to fix. One is a leaky exhaust manifold, driver’s side. Could just be the gasket, I always wanted to put headers on and never had it fixed. The other is a transmission fluid leak at the main rear seal. It has never gotten worse in the 11-years that have had the car and I have been told by my mechanic that it would be $350 to replace the seal. I would be comfortable driving this car to anywhere in the USA. It is a mechanically sound car.
