Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my 1985 BMW 635 CSi, which has served me well for the past two years but has been replaced with a new car that better accommodates my newborn.I purchased the BMW in August, 2009 from a friend. It had 130,012 miles on the clock, and current mileage is estimated at 148,000, as the odometer became stuck at 138,462.A selection of notable, documented work that was performed before I purchased the car:• Radiator fan clutch, thermostat replaced (122,399 miles)• Driveshaft rebuilt (122,903 miles)• Distributor cap, wires, plugs, oxygen sensor, catalytic converter replaced (127,248 miles)• Battery replaced (mileage unknown; May, 2009)In addition to regular oil changes, I've had the following work performed:• Fuel and air filter replaced, idle control valve serviced, transmission fluid serviced (130,444 miles)• Original Michelin TRX and tire setup replaced with 16" Continental Extreme Contact DW rubber and OE BMW wheels (131,990 miles)• Four wheel alignment (December, 2010)• Hood, roof, and trunk painted with base coat/clearcoat (due to peeling clearcoat) (January, 2011)• Front and rear suspension struts replaced with new Bilsteins (June, 2010)• Front brake pads and sensors replaced (June, 2010)• New Sears Die Hard battery installed (August, 2011)• Front seat repaired with vinyl section (leather retained everywhere else), both front seats dyed (November, 2011)I have records for the maintenance items mentioned above. The car drives strongly and is completely reliable, and I'll miss its smooth cruising, excellent visibility, and classic style. The air conditioning blows cold, the trip computer works, the power sunroof and power seats function normally, with the exception of the headrest on the driver's side. Though I repainted the hood, roof, and trunk, there are a few scratches, paint flaws and slight clearcoat peel on the left side (see detail photo.) There is a subtle difference between the paint tone on several panels, which is visible in several of the photos. Just ahead of the rear left wheel is a slight wrinkle in the body panel; I never had an accident with the car, but it appears to be evidence of a previous fender bender. The interior is generally in good shape, though there are some thin dashboard cracks (also visible in detail photos.) There is no rust on the car; I can't vouch for its early history, but I do know it has spent most of its recent years in California.A few things that can be addressed at the buyer's discretion, though none of them have any immediate bearing on the car's driveability:• The left steering bushing will eventually need replacing. There is some looseness in the steering that's noticeable on certain surfaces at highway speeds which can be attributed to the bushing. I've received an estimate of around $300 (with labor) to get the work done; if you want to go further, you could get the control arms replaced as well, which I've had estimated at $800 for the total job (along with the bushings.)• I never bothered to fix the "Service" indicator on the dash; it's a $200 job which I didn't find necessary.• Sometimes it takes some time for the gauge illumination (ie, speedo and tach) to kick in at night; this could be due to a loose connection.• Occasionally, the "license plate frame light" and/or "brake light" indicators go on, though they both work.• When the A/C is not in use, the heater fan whines a bit.Again, my BMW has served me well and I'll be sad to see it go. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country or use it as a daily driver (which my wife and I have done regularly over the past two years.)Please feel free to email me with any questions, or to setup an inspection and/or a test drive. I will deliver the car to the winning buyer anywhere in the Los Angeles area.Happy bidding! On Dec-13-11 at 09:48:38 PST, seller added the following information: Note: Sorry for the typo, obviously this is a 635, not a 653.
