Vehicle Detail
1956 BMW R50 THIS IS AN ALL ORIGINAL R50. It is NOT a /2! It is older and predates the slash 2 and has been verified by vin from the BMW archives in Germany. ALL NUMBERS MATCH. This bike has been verified both from BMW in Germany and my local BMW dealer that all the numbers match. It was in running condition when it was parked 23 years ago. I have owned this bike since that date. I was a BMW mechanic in the 70's and have held onto this bike to restore. The project was never started, and I want it to go to an appreciative collector. This rare bike has been sitting inside in storage and under cover ever since. There is absolutely ZERO rust inside the tank. The air in the tires is the air from mid 80's. They hold air and are in good shape - especially considering their age. This R50 motorcycle was manufactured on February 20, 1956 and was delivered to Butler and Smith in NYC on April 9, 1956. The original color was Black with White pinstriping. This model was the first to use the Earls Fork front suspention and was made 2 months into the 2nd year of production of this model. All of the serial numbers match and have been confirmed accurate and not tampered with. All information has been authenticated from the BMW archives and available to any bidder wishing to view the correspondence from Germany upon request. Again, this is NOT a /2 motorcycle. All accessories are from the correct period and included with the sale of this bike. The accessories I am aware of are the engine guards, side stand, and touring seat. The original key is still in the ignition. The only original item not on the motorcycle that I am aware of is the manufacturers plate on the steering head. I am including a period replica that can be engraved and mounted on the motorcycle in the auction. The engine has not been turned over since parked in storage. The engine compression was tested prior to storage, and the engine was in great condition. Overall, this bike is in fantastic condition for being over 55 years old. This bike is unrestored. It will need restoration to be road worthy. Please look at the pictures closely. The chrome has some pitting, the seat needs to be repaired, etc. However, the bike is in excellent condition and complete and would therefore make for an easy project. Please contact me via email for additional questions or for more information. I will respond as quickly as possible, or if you'd like to talk about it, please email me your phone number, and I will contact you.
