Vehicle Detail

1986 M1009. I purchased this off of Government Liquidation and recovered it from Fort Irwin, near Barstow, California in October 2008. When I got it, it had approximately 60,000 miles on it. Original color was olive drab, I repainted it with RAPCO CARC substitute 686 Tan. I also repainted all of the interior except the sidewalls of the rear portion and floors. Repairs I've made: When I first got it, I drained and replaced all fluids, including transmission and differentials. I've replaced the rear wheel bearings/seals, replaced the transmission shaft seal, and oil pan seal. The radiator was removed and re-cored with a 4-core aluminum core, retaining the original tanks. While I had the radiator out, I replaced the water pump as preventative maintenance. Notes: There is a small oil leak coming from the rear main seal, as well as the drain plug. When I recently changed the oil, the rubber washer split when I re-installed the plug. I didn't notice until I'd refilled the oil, and didn't see the point to draining all that brand new oil for a relatively insignificant leak. There is also a leak coming from the transfer case slip shaft. It is not the seal in the transfer case, it's actually leaking out of the shaft itself. There is apparently some sort of plug in there that can go bad. Again, a relatively minor leak that I just haven't bothered going after. Body condition: There is a rather large crease/dent behind the driver's side door. The driver's side door had also been replaced by the military prior to me recovering it. Otherwise, it is pretty good shape with minor dings here and there. Rust: above both doors along the drip rail are small spots of rust. The back hatch also rust along the bottom edge and cracks in the metal at the window gap. I've tried to photograph these as best as possible. To the best of my knowledge, there is no other rust, other than surface rust on the floors where the paint has worn off. Suspension: 4" lift. 4" front springs, rear shackle flip with pinion angle correction blocks. Rancho shocks and steering stabilizer. 33x14.5x15 Super Swamper Boggers with full size spare. Tread is nearing the end of it's life, but have several thousand miles remaining. Mechanical: Everything works as it should, except the windshield wipers. They run VERY slow and spray fluid whenever you turn them on. I tried to take photos of the blackout drive lights, all are operational, you can faintly see the lights in the photos, but it is daytime. 4WD works excellent. Motor starts and runs very well. Fuel mileage with the lift and boggers is about 12-15mpg. I've taken this on several trips of 300 miles +, with no problems, although it is quite loud. I wouldn't particularly recommend driving this cross country, because of the noise, but if I had to, I'd have no mechanical worries doing it. Modifications: I removed a couple of the idiot lights in the dash and installed mechanical oil pressure and temperature gauges. Installed a Sony AM/FM CD player with 6x9 speakers in the doors. Only the CD works as I did not install an antenna. I removed the factory front seats as the passenger was broken and the driver had pretty much no seat cover left. These were replaced with seats out of a 2001 Chevy Silverado. Much more comfortable, and the seat belts are built into the seats, which makes it easier for backseat passengers to get in and out. I built a center console out of wood and carpeted it. Gave myself cup holders and massive storage space. It's easily removable if it doesn't suit you, just a couple screws. In the rear storage area, there were screw holes all over. I welded these closed, filled, and primed. My eventual goal was to have the tub Line-X'd, but I've never gotten around to it. The rear glass has a vinyl "sticker" on it called Vision. It has tiny holes that make it so you really can't see in from the outside, but can see out just fine from the inside, I painted it to color match the truck before I installed it. I think that pretty much covers everything. As part of the auction, if you want them, I have 3 55 gallon drums of used motor and hydraulic oil that can be used as fuel. I've never gotten around to buying/building a good filtration system for it, so I've never used it. They are yours for the taking if you want. I think I've covered everything I can think of, tried to take pictures of everything. If there's anything I missed, please let me know, and I'd be happy to try to get a picture for you. I also included a video of a cold start. It hadn't been started in about a week, current temp is about 60 degrees, or thereabouts.
