Vehicle Detail

For sale!! Low Reserve!! I hate to do this and my kids are going to scalp me but “Russell” is up for sale….This is a very unique, 1958 Volkswagen Kombi Bus. Mechanically, the little bus is like new and a lot of work has been done to him over the last, two years. I’ll do my best to describe it but I’m not the one who originally brought him back to life so there are some things that I’m not 100% sure of. I have had it and driven it for a while and know that it runs like a top, is a blast to drive and gets a pile of attention where ever he goes!! Here’s the skinny on “Russell”….. 1958 VW Kombi Engine/Tranny: Completely rebuilt 1600cc engine. From the serial number, it appears to be a 1973-74-model engine. The carb was rebuilt as well and basically, so was everything else. The valves have been adjusted recently. I’m not 100% sure of the internals or details of the rebuild but I can tell you that the bus has plenty of power, runs like a sewing machine and doesn’t smoke or make any sounds. I would say that it only has a couple of thousand on the rebuild at best. It has a 4 speed, manual transmission that shifts very well and doesn’t pop out of gear. This bus starts and runs flawlessly, period. It has a new, 15-gallon, stainless fuel tank as well. Suspension/Brakes: The bus has 3 inch lift with a one inch transmission drop to compensate for camber. The spindles are from “VolksFab”. The shocks are all new as well. The front end has been completely rebuilt as well and was just aligned a few moths ago. It really handles well for what it is. Steering has next to zero play in it and feels tight. In my opinion, it’s just the right amount of lift to look good but hasn’t affected the performance of driving it in any way. The entire brake system has been rebuilt front to back and works great! Body: As you can see, there is rust in the rockers but that’s really it. The floors und underside are SOLID!! For a couple of hundred dollars, you could get all of the metal panels that you need to fix the obvious rust. The rest of the rust is surface only!! I do not have the bumpers for it. Interior: The front seat needs recovered but the rear, Z-bed is perfect! It’s covered in white vinyl and folds out nicely into a bed. The front and rear have a nice rubber mat and the front “cab” has new door panels, kick panels and headliner. The rest of the bus has all new, wood panels and really looks sharp. There is no headliner however. All windows are perfect. The front windows slide open with easy. The vent windows need latch work but they do function. All of the side windows pop open and have new frames and rubber. I have new latches for them as well but haven’t had time to put them in. The doors all open and close like new! Electrical: The bus could use a new harness but the wiring is all-new and is fine. The headlights and taillights work. There are no turn signals or interior lights. The brake lights just quit working too. I think it’s either a ground or maybe the switch itself shot craps. The gauge cluster lights do not work and neither does the speedometer. This model has no fuel gauge but it gets good mileage and has a big tank so I’ve never worried!! Wheels and Tires: The wheels are freshly powder coated and the tires and new as well. They have killer tread but seem to clean out well if they get muddy. BF Goodrich Mud T/As. All in all, this is one, fun little bus that is pretty unique. It’s very reliable nd like I said, a BLAST to drive!! My kids and I take it everywhere and have camped out of it a couple of times too. Believe it or not, it goes down the road straight and really handles well for what it is. Also, it will go ANYWHERE as you can see in some of the pictures. A couple of the pics are from when the bus was up in Washington where it was originally built. It’s just a cool bus that I think has a ton of potential and would be fun to just keep running as is and tinker with as you like. With a bit of elbow grease, you could have a nice looking bus too. Please keep in mind that even though much has been to the bus and I think it’s very reliable, it is what it is…a 60 year old bus. It’s no speed demon either. It likes 55mph real well so I wouldn’t plan on driving it across the country!! Please ask questions if you have them and I will do my best to answer them. The bus does have a clear title. $500, non-refundable deposit due in 24 hours with the balance due in 72 hours. Shipping is up to the new buyer but I will work with your shipper. I can store it a while but don’t want to keep it forever! No warranties expressed or implied. Sold AS IS, WHERE IS!! I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime for any reason. Also, there is no heater.
