Description & pictures to follow: See this Auctions Wonderful Vintage 1979 SUZUKI RM 400 (417cc) DIRT RACING Bike (& my other Bike I am selling as well ) at the "WORLDS LARGEST" ..."CYCLE WORLD" International Cycle Show this weekend at the Exquisite "Long Beach Convention Center" December. 9th , 10th & 11th In the World Wide ..."VINTAGE JAPANESE MOTORCYCLE CLUBs" Booths (#1469, 1471, 1473 & 1475 ) 1979 SUZUKI RM 400 (417cc).. I believe this is about the "BIGGEST" & "BADDEST" & BEST Handling of the Truly Great "Air Cooled" Reed Valve 2 stroke Production RACING Bikes that Suzuki hs ever built & best of all It has the Updated Pressurized Forks & Updated Rear Dual Shock Alloy Swing Arm + Pressurized Rear Suspension as well !!!..that some of the earlier lesser handling SUZUKI 400's didn't have...& she has a Double Leading Shoe Front Brake ..That is FAR BETTER than a single shoe brake !!! ( it is like all the Pre disc (bikes like the Norton Manx "EIGHTEEN" time world Champion !!) etc. Road Race Bikes Used to have !!!! This is a Very Straight Forward Get Down & Get right to Business Dirt Racing Bike...That appears to be in Overall Great Shape ! About a Month ago I sold my other RM Dirt Racing Bike & I received an email from a very interesting & Very Knowledgeable ebayer who said in 1979 he was the 2nd Place Amateur Motocross Champion & he Won it on a 1979 RM SUZUKI !!!!! (which just happens to be the same year as this bike) !!!! It would be very HARD TO FIND another 1979 SUZUKI RM 400 ! With fairly Very Low Hours on Her !!! I believe this is one of the Last years of this version of this AMAZING 1979 (air cooled pre water cooling reed valve) version two stroke RM 400 RACE BIKES So I am sure SUZUKI has worked out any & All bugs then... I would think. Please Check out how Nice the BRAND NEW (just installed 12/ 8/11) 460 X 18 Rear tire & Tube ! ! ! ! FEAR NOT ! ! ! These are Super Nice Easy to Ride Very Forgiving Bikes & Without Question are ....& RM 400 SUZUKI's have long been known for their Very RELIABLE & SUPER FUN ! FUN ! FUN ! to Ride This is a Bike that most everyone seems to think feels very natural to them & fits most say it fits them like a Glove ! It is fairly AMAZINGLY Agile & Great for a Open Class bike as it's seat is only about "off the Ground & if your sitting down on the bike it's Actually only about " to about inches off the ground !!! (way more do-able than most new bikes are these days !!!!!!!!) & Far less complicated and FAR less expensive to maintain as compared to a four stroke racing dirt bike. Most People agree these are Possibly one of the MORE FUN, & Typically More RELIABLE & Best Built & "Hands Down" one of the MOST Trouble Free Dirt Race bikes made ! & This Baby is GREAT ! as good as she looks I most riders say these Handle Even Better than she looks ...if that is possible !! ) There are a lot of UTube etc web sites showing people having a Great time ridding these Amazing Dirt Racing Bikes !!! and there are plenty of Great People that carry a TON of parts for these Wonderful SUZUKI RM 400 cc Dirt/ Race bikes should you ever need anything! To get this MAGNIFICENT Bike ready for this weekends BIG SHOW ...We have just done a Nice cosmetic restoration on this beautiful RM 400. It's seat was rebuilt from it's frame up with New foam padding & a BRAND NEW VINTAGE SUZUKI Seat Cover & Graphics. It has UPGRADED (GERMAN MADE "Meguire" Clutch and Front Brake Levers (and they Look GREAT !!!) . It's Front & Rear Fenders and Side panels are all in Good Shape and like her Beautiful tank have just been refinished and as you can see Look Great ! & Yes, She has what looks to be New old stock Original Gas Tank etc Graphics From VINTAGE SUZUKI (80') !!!! I have substituted another tank for the original & as you can see it is in Great Shape and Looks Great ! My Mechanic and I just flushed out the tank, Carburetor & Fuel lines & the entire Fuel System & added a Brand New in line Gas Filter ....( & after this weekends BIG SHOW My Mechanic and I can continue & put new gas in her I think she will start right back up (as it according to it's previous owner was supposed to be a good running bike right up until it went in to storage a few years ago.. ...So, with any luck this baby will Ready to Go have some GREAT fun with ! (in the next few days (right after this weekends BIG BHOW.. I will keep you posted ) Try to keep in mind these Wonderful Bikes are all About FUN ! ......Think About it if You pass this Baby Up ....where else will you ever find a 1979 RM 400 (417cc) with so little use & so Little abuse ...on her ! ! ! Most everyone that I have talked to over the years has told me that this was one of the very Best bikes of it's day....& based on my experience with these RM 400s ... I would have to add maybe "One of the Best bikes EVER !!!! These are Great Performing Excellent Handling World Class Racing Bikes ! I purchased this over a year ago & I still have the Bill of sale I received from the prior owner. Since this is a Race Bike & is designed to race on Moto Cross tracks etc...I have never had it put into my name as around here transfer is handed by "bill of sale" from one owner to the next owner here in California with Dirt Racing bikes that are used on Dirt Bike Moto Cross Tracks etc. . This has been in storage for many years since about 2001 & being a Vintage Dirt Racing bike It does not have to be registered here in California as long as you use it as a track bike. The California DMVs last record of this bikes VIN # date all the way back to 2002 so I believe in the next year or two it should fall off the records as I have been told computer records here typically fall off in 5 to 10 years if you would like to use this with a green sticker (off private land or off a Dirt Racing Track area etc etc ) then I would wait till it drops back off & then the registrations fees will be a lot less. If you live out of the Country I will be glad to supply you with a California Certified "NOTORIZED BILL of SALE" as I recently sent two of my Vintage Collection bikes to the United Kingdom (England) and that is all that they required. To my eye ...I think it looks Great ! ...I have always been Very Proud of this Particularly Beautiful 1979 RM 400 (417 cc)...& Even in 2011 She still Looks GREAT ! as these RM 400's are Typically Super Reliable Bikes ! & Everyone seems to be in agreement that .... "These Bikes are GREAT ! & are typically Quite Possibly one of the Most FUN & RELIABLE Bikes my friends & I have Ever ridden in the past 5 decades Since the late 1950's !" (...& I was a Technical Editor for Cycle News Magazine (at that time it was the Largest Motorcycle publication on Earth ! ! ! & I wrote 14 Four to Five page Featured Techincal Articals for "Cycle News" magazine & I was a Four+ Year Sponsored Open Class "TT" & "Half Mile" Racer for "BULTACO" Motorcycles late 1969 to 1974 So ...No One Loves a Great Dirt Bike Better than Me ! ....and again ........If you Pass Up this Wonderful Bike where will you ever find a 1970's SUZUKI RM 400 with so relatively little use on Her ! ????? ?????? This is a Bike that when running most anyone could Have "BIG FUN" ridding all day long On ! Most everyone I have talked with agrees these SUZUKI RM 400 have hands down Always been considered one of the Worlds BEST Dirt / Racing bikes & SUZUKI has Long Been known for their Trouble Free, Reliability. The RM 400 SUZUKI's are probably one of the Easiest to Ride & Most Most Rider Friendly Dirt Racing Bikes ever Made !!! & this 1979 is BY FAR one of the Most Evolved Early Susessful Dirt Racing Bikes as it has all of the Most sought after Goodies (Self Tuning Reed Valve inductions system, For the First time Decent "Pressured" "Big Travel" Forks & "Pressured" Decent Travel Rear Shock with a heat treated Aluminum "Super Strong" ALLOY rear Swing arm suspension ("in 1979 All of this was "Rocket Science" that Really worked GREAT " ! ! ! ), Very Simple less hassle far more reliable Air Cooled (than the early water cooled 400 SUZUKIs I have heard) (this being one of the last years of these Very Perfected RM 400 Reed Valve (Air Cooled) engine ( Factory Tuned MX Race Chamber style) Pipe , Factory Big Cooling HEAD & All of this Yet She is still nice and (relatively) fairly low to the Ground (Way less Scary for Newer Riders) and because of her Nice Low height She will even fit in right into my Chevy Astro Mini Van even with the vans center seat still in place !!!! How many 417 CC World Class DIRT RACING bikes can do that ! ? ! This Has her original Factory seat that was Completely rebuilt from the frame up by my Custom Car Upholstery Shop & she also has her Original SUZUKI front fenders and Right & Left Sides Panels that still looks and is in GREAT Condition with a Brand New 80' SUZUKI Tank Graphics ! Her Gas tank etc. has been Newly refinished & Painted as are the Front & Right & Left side panels and Both Front & rear Fenders. Please Note I replaced the rear fender with a Brand New One YES ! the gas tank Graphics have been replaced with what looks to be ORIGINAL New Old Stock or incredibly Accurate Graphics that look perfect to me to the 80 decals that look just SUZUKI installed on a RM 400 back in 1980 ! The inside of her tank looks GREAT. Handlebars, Pegs, shifter, She has Brand New Handlebar Grips ! Her MeGurie (HIGH QUALITY German made) Clutch & brake levers etc etc are still in Very Nice Condition ! The Shifter lever looks Perfect ! Her Engine serial number is RM which may be a little newer than the frame as it is a slightly higher number. This Beauty has been in storage for Many Years (I would guess Several Decades!) & is just returning to service again & when we put fuel back in her I think She wil be once again "Running Great" I think the more you run her the better she will run ! The Brakes Feel Great her suspension & Forks Feel GREAT ! Here shifter & Clutch seem to work GREAT ! * * * Again.... Think About it , if You pass this Baby Up .....where else will you ever find a 1979 SUZUKI RM 400 (417cc) with very little use on her ! ! ! ??????????????????????? These AMAZING Two stroke are so Straight Forward that typically as long as you have Good Compression and spark they typically start right up. This Baby has Great Compression & Good Spark so as soon as this weekends show is over we can put gas back in here & try and start her back up again... I will keep you posted as it is locked in the LONG BEACH Convention Center till Late Sunday 12/11/11. This Wonderful Bike was storage in a Nice Dry Garage for Several Decades & was last registered 2002. we just flushed the tank & Carburetor + put in fresh gas My mechanic & I washed out the carburator and & tank & installed a Brand New inline fuel filter etc...& again the Brakes and Suspension seem Great & she seems to Shifts well thru the gears ! Particularly as compared to many 400+ cc four stroke dirt bikes of this era. PLEASE NOTE: These bikes in Great Condition typically sell for about $2,000.00 to 3,000.00 & & up particularly with the Low time on her this bike has ...You can steal this bike for just Pennies on the Dollar....As I need to make space here as we lost all of my storage next door ...So my loss could be your gain as ...I am selling this well under market value. So if you are a "nit picker" please Do Not Bid on this auction as I want this bike to go to a good home that will Love it ....as it Should Be ! I feel Overall the bike is in very Good Condition. .
