Vehicle Detail
This is such an outstandingly cool classic, the car that established the modern era for Mercedes Benz. It's spacious, smooth and beautiful from any angle. I'm going to miss taking photo's of it! I bought the car earlier this year from its original Californian owner. It still has the black plates on it although the title is in now in my name. I drove it back to Colorado without any problems but the heater core failed a few weeks later so I have bypassed the heater core, but it's too cold to drive around here without one, so this car either needs to head South or have the heater core replaced. It runs well and is very original and complete, but it is scruffy inside, especially the wood work on the dash. But everything works and it is a pleasure to drive. It is easily the most admired car I have ever owned, and I've had a few nice ones over the years. It looks as if it has been resprayed a long time ago, but the paintwork is in good condition. The bodywork is straight with very few dings and no significant damage at all. It doesn't appear to have ever been repaired and the I have assumed that the mileage is correct. I have service records that go back to 1963 from the original owner whom I purchased the car from. The windshield has a crack in the far left side that doesn't impede vision. Although the car has spent its entire life in Los Angeles it has a few odd little areas of rust. Nothing structural but under the rubber matting in the trunk seems to have suffered and under the door treads (on the top of the sills) are bad where water must have got trapped after rainstorns. Underneath and bodywise its in very good condidtion. Its a daily driver if you can master the 4 on a tree gearshift, but I need the space and I don't want to fix the heater so, now's your chance to enjoy this wonderful piece of 60's memorabilia. Auction will run to its conclusion, don't ask to buy it now. My reserve is half of what I paid for it in the spring. Good Luck On Dec-08-11 at 21:46:18 PST, seller added the following information: I've had several requests to show the areas of rust and the engine bay so I have added four more photos. There is very little rust on the car, it was 50 years in California so its in very solid shape overall. What happened though was that water got under the rubber mat in the trunk and on the top of the sills and must have sat there for a while because it couldn't evaporate away and so the floor of the trunk has superficial rust and bad paint and the drivers door sill has a hole in the top of it. The rest of the car, like the underside of the sills is very sound. The wheel arches are all very solid. There are a number of blemishes but it is 50 years old, and to me they add to the character. I'm not one for over restoring stuff, I like original more than I like perfect and if you are the same you will enjoy and appreciate this car for many years to come. Hope this helps. Its made the reserve now so I hope it goes to a good home. Its a beauty.
