Vehicle Detail
1965 Thunderbird Convertible Parade Car, 84k original miles, much $$$ invested, bid early and often, NO RESERVE! Ok, gentlemen, here we go again. Please check with your wife/girlfriend/mother-in-law AND bank account before bidding, listing on Ebay is NOT cheap :)Desirable "Z" code 390 V8, 82k original miles. The "Z" code 390 has 10.5:1 compression and produces 345 horsepower. This Thunderbird began life and a hardtop and has been converted to a fair weather convertible, no top. I was going to do a Carson type removable top. I have spent more on this car than probably any classic I've ever owned and it's time to let her go. Options include power windows, power steering, "swing away" steering wheel, sequential "1-2-3" tailights and power front disc brakes. I've got service receipts for all the work I've done. Cosmetic: We had the Thunderbird painted in 2008, over $4500 in the paint job and customization alone. Areas where top was cut have been professionally finished off with fiberglass and metal, people always think it's a factory convertible. Doors close easily, the 65 Thunderbird is a common candidate for top removal because of the rigid, strong body. Car was originally black, no color change. Paint is a nice metalflake with red mixed in which glitters in the sun. Red flame on hood scoop and the mural on the trunk are very well done- they're painted on, not vinyl, and get compliments everywhere we go. The chrome wheels are 18's with Bridgestone directional tires, Thunderbird handles like a modern sportscar. It took much trial and error to find mag wheels that fit and allowed the 'Bird to keep her fender skirts on! New door panels, new charcoal gray carpet and new dash cover in same charcoal color. I went all out on the interior, replaced the front and rear seats from a donor '65 Thunderbird with an immaculate black interior (the original seats had some wear). I even swapped the dash display because the donor car's was so perfect with the glowing pods and "thermostat" speedometer. All dash bulbs replaced with new when dash was swapped. The odometer shows 10k because I did not swap over the original odometer when swapping the display. I had planned on swapping the dash pad as well but even my mechanic said he didn't want to do it because of the sheer amount of labor. It 's got a dash cover on it now but you can get a hard black plastic "dash cap" which fits directly over the original. Nice CD/MP3 stereo system with remote mounted in universal radio kit under passenger side dash, new speakers in factory dash location with separate tweeters, speakers mounted on rear deck under air vent openings, nothing cut and a nice bass tube in the trunk, Thunderbird really rocks when you turn up the music! Stereo system alone cost over $1500 installed . Mechanical: Previous owner rebuilt transmission in 2002 and put in a new 4 barrel carb right before I bought the car in 2005. New welded aluminum dual exhaust from engine back with Flowmaster mufflers and new exhaust manifold gaskets (lots of labor to replace Tbird exhaust manifold gaskets, common issue on this era Thunderbird), runs nice and quiet with cool low rumble out the back. New brake calipers, master cylinder, pads and hoses up front and wheel cylinders and brake shoes in the rear. Pertronix electronic ignition and Flamethrower coil installed, I will include the original points setup. I am including over $800 worth of front end parts still new in the boxes that I have not gotten around to putting in, including the idler arm which cost $400 alone as well as inner and outer tie rods, bushings, upper and lower ball joints, KYB shocks, etc. This was not a car I had planned on ever selling so I spared no expense and did not cut any corners. The 'Bird is very driveable as is but I wanted her perfect, you know the story. Replaced driver's floor pan with fitted Ford floor from Tbird Connection and put new sheetmetal in the trunk, floors, underside and frame otherwise solid. Both front windows work, driver's just stopped working, will include new master window switch and window motor as well as a nice collection of cosmetic and mechanical parts. Horn, dash lights, wipers, heater, defrost and all exterior lights work properly. Thunderbird is currently on the road with a new inspection sticker. Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly. Runs very strong, LOTS of power from the 390 V8, front disc brakes stop car easily with no pulling or fading. Drives overall like an American classic sportscar should. VIN is 5Y83Z110346. Nice glittering black paint and black leather color combination. I can put a tarp on if shipping is necessary or use an enclosed carrier. Nice custom Thunderbird which will only appreciate in value!
