Vehicle Detail

If you are seriously looking for one of these classics, whether for yourself, as a holiday present or as an investment, then take a close look at this opportunity. Sadly, I must part with my favorite car ever owned - a timeless classic built by skilled hands (not robots) of supreme engineering and quality parts (all still readily available today). I bought this beauty in 2002 from an estate sale where an older gentleman had passed on. This is a 6-cylinder, fuel injected, 4 speed automatic, 4 wheel disk brake, hand built top of the line Mercedes 108 body S class unlike any models built since. She is cream colored with the tan MB tex seats and brown carpet. With some tuning up and a few mounts and seals I used it for a few years as my daily driver, except in bad weather. I was enjoying a smooth ride better than most new cars off the lot and always getting compliments - especially folks who know Mercedes. The compression, injectors, lifters, etc. are all great and she was run on mid-grade or premium gas. This car has great looking paint, chrome, brushed aluminum, and glass on the outside that has been kept clean, waxed and garaged. The interior dash has no cracks, wood trim around all windows is good, seats are firm as new (previous owner must have had them redone), door panels are perfect, headliner is clean and tight fitting, all lights work in and out, no missing parts. My brother actually had me chauffeur him from his wedding to the honeymoon hotel. It did not use or leak oil between changes, engine always ran cool, transmission shifts properly, front end is very tight and aligned, etc. This car has no major rust issues, lift points, door jams, etc. are all great. There are a couple minor paint bubbles from surface rust (all smaller than a nickel and too small to show in pictures). This car is complete including factory stamped metal tag of original owner in St. Petersburg Florida with original set of manuals, spare tire in holder, jack set, MB tools in pouch, etc. If it is not listed as an item not working below you can assume it works - even the light in the trunk and glove box still come on - for example. I have kept this car in an attached (semi-heated) garage, starting it regularly - full warm up, changing fluids, tuning it up, etc. Reason for selling: working too hard (thankfully) so it is not getting the attention it deserves, kid in college, too many cars, wife says sell it! Things I did or had done (all Mercedes OEM parts where applicable): - all wood window trim removed, repaired or replaced and refinished, including a piece of burled wood for the front dash. It all looks as good as the day it was done- cracked dash pad repaired with new cover (looks original)- engine and transmission mounts, drive shaft support bearing all replaced- original lap seat belts (magnetic clasp) replaced with later model shoulder/lap seat belts (all bolted into existing structures already there from factory - no modifications needed)- electric window motor bushings replaced- radio and speakers replaced (original Becker will also sold with car)- rust removed from drivers side trunk well and steel/bondo/painted - trunk interior painted- oil cooler lines, one brake line, brake pads, brake master cylinder, battery, alternator bushings, valve cover gasket Things that need to be done - minor TLC from sitting:- steering pump or pinion seal has started to leak and should be replaced- differential seal where drive shaft enters is leaking and needs replacing- brakes are not fully releasing: calipers need cleaned and short lines to calipers may need replacing (one line had been done when driving it, I have the other line that will come with it)- switches for changing vents and temperature are stiff and need lubrication of cables - all work but one has broken due to the stiff cables and takes attention to use it- automatic trans shift lever needs tightening (it takes some finessing when putting into gear - shop told me most likely a loose securing bolt in the column)- original ThermoKing AC blows fine at all settings and compressor engages but it has never been charged during my ownership (blows cool - not cold)- while the tires have never lost any air, they are old with only about 25% of tread and showing some crazing- tune up: while the engine does not burn oil (no blue or white smoke) it has started to run a bit rough and rich until fully warmed up. other items to make it show quality (not showroom new):- back seat has some minor holes and one tear that was stitched (due to some dog hair in car when bought, I think the previous owner must have travelled with a dog with sharp claws)- a 1 inch tear in headliner has been clear taped- carpet is little t in back with back passenger side removed- vinyl trunk mat dry rotted and removed - side liners fine - there is one small depression on roof near rear (did not show up in photos it is so minor) - paint has chipped from one hub cap and bubbled in a couple spots (small - did not show up in photos) - other minor blemishes may be found with the discerning eye - clock is not working Extras:- Original seat belts, original Becker radio, Mercedes bulb kit in case, original Mercedes key chain, sterling silver lapel pin from Germany and in original box, extra hub cap (unpainted), second window washer foot pump, new drive shaft bearing (they sent me two when i replaced the first), new air filter, misc. accessory parts like trim, door lock knobs, etc. - owners manuals, service manuals, repair manuals (including giant Mercedes tech manual) Car is about 10 miles north of Asheville, NC. It should be transported due to minor items listed above. With some DIY time (nothing tough for basic mechanical skills) and a $100-$200 or about $500 to a local mechanic it will be ready to go down the road safely. Again, I would also consider tires as well to be sure. This car is being sold "as is where is" with no warranty expressed or implied. All bidders are encouraged to view the car, ask questions, etc. so you are comfortable bidding. I have done my best to represent everything I know on this car as its owner of almost 10 years. Your bid is a binding contract to buy this car. It is being offered with NO reserve so high bid wins. Payment must be PayPal or certified check or money order. Non-refundable deposit of $500 due within 48 hours and balance due in 14 days unless otherwise approved by me. Bottom line - I need to sell it so bid if you are serious and be prepared to get a great car - starting bid is a fraction of what it is worth - just look at the other listings. Happy bidding.
