Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE I reached a young man on the phone that was selling this GTX. He told me it was already sold. My heart sank because this is a difficult car to find. Somehow I managed to have him save my number and little did I know this would be my ticket in the door. The fellow returned my call a few days later and said his deal had fallen through and would I be interested to come check it out. I leapt at the chance and rushed over there before he could call some other lucky chap. When Chatman and I arrived at the unobtrusive warehouse door we, were greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable GTX enthusiast. He had seen one of these through a restoration process already and this was his latest candidate. Before we could see the GTX he showed us pictures of a beautiful car that was his baby. He then led us through the cramped warehouse to the very furthest corner. We were in an unsavory part of town and this car would have taken quite a bit of effort to remove. We looked at each other in disbelief. Here sat an amazing project. It took 4 men an entire morning to dislodge the GTX from its resting point. We filled countless tires with air and floor jacked all types of vehicles out of the way. The young man had a choice, save his warehouse space or keep the GTX. He made the decision to sacrifice the big body mopar. It was a choice he had to make and it was not an easy choice. The guy preferred to collect groovy vans. They were all Dodge vans with a pick up bed in the back or the sleeping quarters combined with a pick up bed. I think they were referred to as Dreamer Vans and he was indeed a dreamer. By the time Tow Mario arrived even he had to help move a few vans. When the job was done the young man pleaded with us to help repack his assortment of Dreamer Vans, which we did begrudgingly only because the light was waning. It was instantly apparent this was a keeper. The original paint was still shiny on the sides. The body was in great shape and there were very few pieces missing. Chatman, my partner, laid claims to the GTX as I had just been given a ’70 Roadrunner. The engine had been rebuilt and we had it double-checked by our Ace Mechanic. My Ace has been fixing up cars for me for 15 years. He gets the bolts tighter than tight and always assumes responsibility for the outcome of the project. This fellow did the suspension and brakes on the GTX and my partner max’ed out his cards ordering every part he ever wanted. The GTX was treated to 4 wheel disc brakes as Chatman had planned on making this a driver. The car is very close to being finished but another project popped up and this one has to go. The lid to the air grabber system is missing but the base is present. Everything pictured comes with the car. There is a new master cylinder and ignition system that needs to be installed. The car has no windshield presently. The condition of this car is a very good platform for a complete restoration. These are desirable models and I hope you treat it like we did. We began building this car with the long haul in mind. I hope it finds a place in your garage and please feel free to ask friendly questions. We’ve been delivering cars for 3 years now and I hope this one presses all the right buttons.
