Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1969 Mustang Convertible project. It is hard to find a classic Mustang convertible not in need of major rust repair. Most of the hard work needed to restore this convertible has already been done. All the makings of an easy to finish convertible are here! Please check out the Marti report to see how the car was originally optioned.I started work on this convertible where the previous owner left off. This car was in good condition for a classic convertible before I started work on it. The frame rails were all strong and straight. I installed new quarter skins, as the previous owner removed the existing ones. The floors were patched as needed and a torque box was replaced. That's it, not too bad for a convertible! The doors are even in good condition. This car is strong and straight! This car is an original "H" code, meaning it came from the factory with a 2bbl 351W engine. The car comes with a 1969 2bbl 351W engine and FMX transmission out of a 1969 Cougar, so it is very close to original. The engine rotates, but I have not tried to start it. Early 351W engines are very desirable and can be rebuilt with all the power you could want. All the pullies and most of the brackets are present (I'm sure I have the power steering bracket laying around, just need to find it).The car was originally Aztec Aqua with a black deluxe interior. I started the bodywork and had some red primer (Zero Rust brand) on hand, so that's what got used. I would estimate the bodywork at 80% finished. There is no Bondo over rust, the bodywork was started correctly! Most of the interior pieces are included as you can see. The correct deluxe seats and woodgrain instrument panel are included. The clock panel says "Mach 1" but those emblems are available new anyways. The dash pad is out of an A/C car, but should be replaced anyways. The lower dash is in good condition as well. The interior quarter panels and quarter windows are all there too. The door glass is in good condition, but you might want to replace the windshield as it has a chip (these are available new for reasonable prices). There was a set of original seat belts in the car in a plastic bag that got filled up with water. The buckles are somewhat rusty, but the original chrome held up pretty well and they might very well be useable. The correct front drum brakes are present. Even the distribution block is present. The master cylinder isn't there, but you would probably buy a new one anyway. The original 9" rear end is in the car as well. The previous owner went a little crazy with the red oxide paint and painted all the moldings. Looks like most moldings are there. You might even be able to polish them up without having to buy new ones. The convertible top frame is there as well and goes up and down. Although it is not a power top, it moves easily and does not appear to be broken.
