Vehicle Detail
I bought this car about 9 years ago with dreams of restoring it. That was before I was married with two young boys and a total lack of time available to do all the work. It is in excellent shape for almost 40 years old. It has always ran since I bought it and has been driven on occasion for fun and to keep things moving. It is NOT a project that was dismantled and sat for years on end. It has always been titled and insured in Arizona since I bought the car. If you win you will not be buying a basket case by any means. Engine: Not original as it does not match the VIN. Does have 4V heads from a Q code but car is an H. I took the starter off years ago to get the block code and can't find the picture so I don't recall what the block is. I seem to think it was D2ZE but not certain. If it is a deal breaker I'll pull the starter again to get a picture. Interior: Not original as the front seats do not look like a Mach 1. Back seat is original I believe. Headliner is in great shape. Dash has a crack under the dashmat. Some minor peeling from gauge bezel can be seen in picture with steering wheel cover missing. Shifter plastic just recently cracked underside black plastic came off. Original window cranks broke, purchased new ones from Scott Drake, installed on driver side. Overall in really good shape, just not period matching. Carpet is excellent as well. New Parts:All suspension and steering components. Only part not new is idler arm which proved difficult to acquire when I did the work, about 5 years ago. All springs, including leafs, are new. New A arms, springs, perches, front sway bar (I have the rear, didn't put it in but will go with car), all bushings. The kit is a 1" drop and bushings are urethane. New brake lines from Classic Tube. Replaced to make sure it stopped and didn't spring a leak. Also has braided stainless from lines to disc caliper.Carburetor rebuilt by Pony Carbs.I removed all the undercoating from under both fenders and recovered with new undercoat. Used POR 15 in some areas that had minor surface rust under fenders. Also removed doors and repainted hinges and put POR on mounting plates behind doors, after cleaning all rust. Battery tray is new. Looked like the previous owner had a battery leak and the underside of tray was rusted. Repaired body damage with POR and epoxy as small holes were all that were there. Newer battery, within last year. New trunk seal, to keep water out and slow the rust in the trunk.I have all receipts for new parts. In addition I have mustang assembly manuals, shop manuals, and Haynes manual that will come with the car. Issues:Only recently, last two months or so, Tach and speedometer began working intermittently. Rust in usual places, nothing serious. Trunk is probably the worst but can be repaired instead of replaced I believe.Bondo on passenger side rear quarter. Previous owner stated someone backed into the car. Doesn't look thick but it is starting to chip.Lower left quarter, appears to have bondo as well. Don't know about this repair.Horn and steering wheel. You can see the photo on the link below. While driving with my wife the horn shorted, started to smoke, I quickly pulled the rubber off the center of the steering wheel and peeled the wires apart. So the horn does not work and steering wheel is not perfect, but at least the car didn't burn. Has a header gasket leak on passenger side.A/C compressor ticks, you can hear it in the video under the hood.Door panels not great, missing linkage for driver side mirror remote. Passenger side mirror mounting is broken but I have the mirror. This list is not intended to be, nor could it be all things wrong with the car. I've pointed out what I know is wrong to the best of my knowledge. I think it adds value to the car, especially since you can't see it in person, and it prevents at least some surprises. It is a project, so the car is not perfect but certainly an excellent candidate for restoration and a great driver. I have only driven the car about 500 miles since I bought it. Just took it to local cruise once in a great while and around the neighborhood to keep it running well. Previous owner said motor was rebuilt about 5000 miles ago. I can't vouch for it but the car runs very well. I think it has a shift kit as it chirps from first to second. Just a fun car that I hope someone wants to restore. There are many more pictures and a video walk around with the car running on the following link: 1972mach1mustang.blogspot.com You will be responsible for all shipping and pick up of car. I'll help as much as I can but no guarantees. If you live in the Phoenix area you could drive it home. Much farther than that and I'd be a little concerned, it is 40 years old. Good luck and if you win I'd love to see the final product maybe even help out if you live nearby. On Nov-12-11 at 23:04:24 PST, seller added the following information: To all current and prospective bidders: I typed the link to many more photos and video incorrectly.
