2002 Pontiac Trans Am NHRA Special Edition Click on photo below to enlarge Presented to you is this one owner since new 2002 NHRA Special Edition Trans Am which is 1 of only 534 produced in 2002 with only 1758 original miles. This Special Edition 1SH optioned T/A is finished in Pewter on the outside all wrapped around the Ebony Black Luxurious interior. She is powered by her original LS1 5.7L SFI V8 engine mated to a Hurst 6-Speed transmission and a 3.42:1 posi-traction rear axle. She drives super tight and still has that new car smell. She rides on Pontiac T/A Chrome Wheels with Good Year Eagle GSC performance tires that give her a little bling when going down the road. Opening the driver's cockpit to the sun are the super cool T-Tops that store nicely in the cargo area when you are going for that fresh air appeal. Pontiac being a major sponsor of the NHRA for many years released these Special Edition Formula and Trans Am models from 2000-2002 as a commemorative edition to celebrate the NHRA's 50 year anniversary in 2001. In 2000 there was a total of 215 NHRA Firebirds produced, of which 97 were formulas. In 2001 there were only 145 produced and in 2002 there were 534 produced. The total number produced is 895. The rarest are a few Trans Am Convertible NHRA SE models with approximately 15 produced. The NHRA Special Edition 1SH package comes with a Power Steering cooler, Good Year 245/50ZR16 on 16" wheels and some very cool dealer installed exterior badging. The automatics came with a 3.23:1 rear axle ratio and the Hurst 6-speeds came with the default 3.42:1. You could only get NHRAs in white, black, pewter or red. Also, when you ordered a Formula / Trans Am, you had a choice between the WS6 or NHRA package. It was either or, and they could not be combined. Pontiac has been the Official Car of the NHRA since Oldsmobile's departure as Official Car at the end of the 1995 Season. The NHRA option added $1,095 to the sticker price of the vehicle. The NHRA SE Trans Am is a special designation to commemorate the NHRA drag racing series. The NHRA badges were made by Morgan Design Group.
