Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1972 Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior. Vin # AR1278235. Original 1300 was replaced with a European 1750 with dual webers. Ultimate daily driver for the budget minded Alfa enthusiast! Instead of driving your booring car everyday, you could be driving this great running Alfa GT. Bring some excitement into your life that will not break your bank account. According to Alfa Rome archives: with reference to your request we are informing you as follows. According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 1278235 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior (105.30), manufactured on the 3rd March 1972 and sold on the 20 th March 1972 in Bergamo, Italy. The body colour is "faggio" (AR516), with Maremma wild boar tex interiors. Yours, Sincerely, Marco Fazio I purchased this very rare GT Jr. from a US serviceman that had owned the Alfa while stationed in Italy. It had been his daily driver, and is not a garage queen. It is a very rare car here in the US, since they never imported Jr's into the US. The color is very rare as well. It is called "Faggio" which is a deep maroon - almost a black cherry color. Quite striking, and only found on the European models. At some point while still in Italy, the 1300 was replaced with a European 1750 engine with dual webers. The Alfa was imported into the US in 2004. Since it is a European model, it has Italian gauges and the Speedometer is in Kilometers. The odometer shows 21,000 Km, and has obviously turned over. Mechanically the GT is in excellent condition. The Euro 1750 runs extremely strong with no oil buring issues. The car starts easily at the pull of the choke. The 5 speed transmission is in excellent shape with no 2nd gear syncro issues. The clutch works fine. The Alfa has "hanging pedals". The driveshaft/u joints are all in good working condition with no issues. The emergency brake works as it should. All electrics work fine including lights, gauges, heater fan & wipers. Tach and Speedo work fine with no issues. Exhaust is in good condition with a new center section. The rear portion has a straight pipe (stinger) which sounds great. This is no radio, but the sound of the exhaust is all you will need. Truly music to your ears as you go through the gears! The Alfa may be a Junior, however this Alfa really screams. Probably one of the fastest stock 4 cylinder cars I have driven. It pulls through all gears, and the 1750 really likes the rpm. Since the speedometer is in Km's, I wasn't exactly sure what my highway speed were. I used my navigation, and can confirm that it runs beautifully at 110 + mph. The Alfa felt great and the gas pedal still had more room to go. It could run all day at this speed, so gas up and drive home. The following have been done recently: Points, plugs, ignition wires, alternator, fan belt, front calipers & pads. New front brake hoses. Center section of the exhaust. Webers were just adjusted and it's running better than ever! The interior is essentially all original. The Jr models had a different interior which is similar to that of an early GTV. No headrests were used, and it's more of a bucket seat. The bottom of the front seats have been taped. The rear seat top portion is in poor condition due to sun damage. It has been taped as well. The door panels are in nice condition. Dash is in good shape with no radio cut out. It has a dash cap that is cracked. All glass is in good condition. The driver's side window needs a little bit of help when raising the window. It is fitted with factory Carello European Headlights. It also has Carello front driving lights, and also a Carello rear fog light. All of these lights work as they should. The Alfa is fitted with a matched set of Firestone tires that are in good condition. The body had been restored at some point back in the day Italian style - they seem to skim coat the body with filler. I recognized the technique from my Giulia Super which was another Italian import. With that said, they used a liberal amount of filler on the lower portion of the driver's side door. Over the years, the filler lifted and as a result the driver's side door will need some work at some point. Where the filler lifted, it was treated with Por 15 to protect the area. There are some rust bubbles on the upper lip of the trunk lid near the emblem. There is also some rust around the driver's side drain hole. The passenger side door has a few rust bubbles as well as the left rear wheel arch. The doors close fine with no sagging issues. Lower front valence is pushed in, and as shown in the photo's, the front bumper is tweaked as well. Passenger side rocker panel has a shallow dent. Most importantly, the Alfa does not have ANY rust around the front windshield or the rear window, which is a very common and difficult rust area to deal with. Both the L & R rear quarter window areas are rust free as well - another common rust area on GT's. The floors and inner rockers are solid. There are several spots where the clear coat has worn away. Drive as is, or restore. Your choice. In summary, this GT is a perfect daily driver Alfa. Something that you can drive and enjoy without the worry of a door ding or a stone chip. These cars were built to be driven, here's your chance! As stated, this is a turn key car that I would not hesitate to drive anywhere. Heat works fine, so it will be perfect for some fall driving. I have done my best to describe the Alfa to the best of my ability, knowing that most will not be able to view the Alfa in person. In some of the pictures I have my 72 GTV 2000 parked next to the Jr, to show the differences between the two 72 GT's. The Jr. has smaller tail lights, rubber mats, no center console. Different (nicer) grill. As well as many other differences. It's really the best of both worlds - the simplicity of an early GTV, but a newer version. The fine print: If you have 0 feedback or more than 2 negative feedback ratings, you must contact me prior to bidding. A non refundable deposit of $500.00 is due within 24 hours of the auction end date, preferably by Paypal. My 100% feedback speaks for itself, so you can bid with confidence. Looking for a great home for my GT Jr. I have set the reserve low so that the "99%" can afford to own this GT Jr! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, I will do my best to answer any questions that you may have. I will consider ending the auction early for the motivated buyer that would like to make a serious offer. I do reserve the right to end the auction early. On Nov-15-11 at 19:24:25 PST, seller added the following information: I had an inquiry regarding the spots in front of the Alfa - they are water spots. The Alfa does not have any oil leaking issues. Also, keep in mind that this Alfa is 40 years old - it's a solid example that is a daily driver. I have done my best to describe the Alfa to the best of my ability. Please do not make any assumptions about this GT and expect an Alfa that you can take to the next concours. If it was, my reserve would have been three times what it was set at. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Lastly, if you do not have the funds to complete the transaction in the required time frame as stated in the auction - DO NOT BID.
