Vehicle Detail

First of all let me tell you that it is with a VERY heavy heart that we decided to offer this car for sale. This is likely the best example of this model anywhere, and we are sure we'll never find another one quite like it. This car isn't new, but it may as well be: it's hard to believe that a 46 year old car can be preserved this well. Here's what we know: -The car was bought new by a US Army officer while on duty in Germany (this is a Euro spec car), who brought it back to WA state with him upon his return home. -The car remained garaged and seldom used until 2002, at which time it was purchased by a Mercedes collector. -He offered the car for sale on Ebay 3 years later, where it brought $12600 sale price. A copy of this Ebay listing was included with the documentation of the car, and we are including it here for reference. It gives a very good idea of what the car's condition was like 7 years ago. Please read through the description carefully, as it lists all the service that was done to the car prior to the sale, including a complete brake system overhaul, etc. -the new owner decided to take the car up a notch, and ordered a new paint job at a cost of over $9000. This well documented work included complete trim removal, repainting outer body panels in 2 stage urethane paint with clearcoat in the original factory color and than reinstalling all of the trim. NO body work was needed, and NO inner panels were painted. This was simply a color refresh. The trunk, door jams and under the hood still have original finish, which blends in with the new paintwork beautifully. This result of this high quality work is simply stunning glass-like surface and better than when the car left the factory! It looks as good as new now that it's 7 years old. The car only covered about 2k miles since than, and there's no chips in the paint at all! A detailed documentation of work comes with the car. After the repaint, a new windshield and rubber gasket was installed. The glass still remains absolutely scratch and pit free. The other improvements at that time included new factory carpets at a cost of over $2000, and a stereo system at a cost of $4000 (why??). Receipts are also included. In the last few months there was about 150 man hours of detailing work done to the car. We are including about 100 pictures to try and show the amazing level of this car's originality. This is simply a gorgeous classic, that puts a huge smile on your face when you get in and drive it. It performs beautifully, as the day it rolled off the assebly line, and looks just as good. Everything works, including the original Blaupunkt radio. We've meant to delete the stereo system that was added later on, but never got around to it. It was obviously well put tohether, complete with the factory upgrade kick panels for the seakers (original kick panels are in the trunk!), and a factory upgrade center console. The engine had received new glow plugs a few years ago, but other that fluid changes never required any work. It starts right away, sounds beautiful, and the car just glides down the road. What a beautiful ride! The transmission shift very smoothly, and the clutch action is perfect. The chrome work on the car requires special mentioning. It is simply amazing that an original chrome can still be FLAWLESS almost 50 years later! You have to see it to believe it. Same goes for the weatherstripping, it's still soft, and appears / performs new. Simply amazing! The interior is also at least a 9 out of 10. Just stunning! 82k km on the odometer, which is just over 50k miles. It is an investment quality Mercedes that's been uniquely preserved! Don't miss this rare opportunity. And what it looks like today: No pitting on chrome anywhere!
