There is NO frame rust or rust in the bird cage that is visible. There is some surface rust and chrome pitting on exterior metal brackets and chrome parts. This Corvette is a great candidate for restoration as all of the major components are original to the car. The carburetor is from a 1969 350 350 HP 4 speed, the alternator looks newer and non original and the master cylinder has been replaced. The Corvette runs and drives and stops as you can see in the video. It is not a street worthy car for now. The tires are old, and all the drivetrain components should be inspected and serviced by a professional before being driven. This Car will need to be towed with its wheels off the ground to your location. After spending a few hours cleaning the Corvette we put a battery in to see if it would start. The gas tank had been removed by the prior owner, patched and reinstalled. It holds gas and does not leak. The engine started and ran and continues to run better and better each time although it is very tired. The choke has come back to life and functions properly now. Next I put it in gear to see how the trans mission was. It shifted very well into all gears and the clutch felt great and smooth also. I installed a rebuilt master cylinder and some good used calipers so it has brakes. I then pulled the light switch and all Lights worked but the headlights did not come up. I checked the vacuum to them and it was almost non-existent. It appears that the vacuum tank has a leak and the vacuum line to the tank has been plugged for now. I hooked up a good tank from the Corvette project I’m working on in its place and I had 18lbs of vacuum. When I pulled the headlight switch the driver’s headlight came right up and then I lost vacuum due to a bad actuator seal on the passenger’s side headlight. With both headlights up the vacuum will close both headlights. The wiper door got vacuum and did not function. I would start with the switch and go from there. The interior is very rough needing new carpet, door panels, seat covers, t-top inserts and an upper dash pad. All the gauges work except the clock and the tach. The tach gauge itself works but the problem is the gear in the distributor. If you remove the cable from the distributor and hook it up to a drill the tach moves well. The horn button and contact are missing. The radio is the original Corvette radio and when turned on, it lights up and makes the speaker pop but that’s it. The lower dashes are good. Rear quarter panels look good but the retractor covers are missing. The rear window storage tray is also missing. The door ajar pin switches are broken but the courtesy light switches all work. The factory Alarm system works horn and all. The glass is all dated correct for the car. The reverse lockout cable is hooked up and works. The comfort grip steering wheel has nice grain all around. The vent controls open and close properly on both sides. The seats have very nice metal in the visible part of the seat bottoms (pics) and the seat tracks work well. The body is all GM panels. The front half of the driver side inner fender was replaced with a 1973 style inner fender at some point. There is a small repair at the drivers rear corner where the bumper bolts on (see pic). Other than that all the panels fit well and the floor is very solid with no breaks anywhere that I could find. The battery compartment has some damage at the hold down point (see pic) like they all get. The passenger front fender corner has a crack also (see pic). It appears that the car had one repaint at some point but it was just a tape and shoot as you can see the tape lines on some of the chrome and it never got painted behind the rear license plate. The rear filler panel has never been removed from the car. The hood has cracks at the drivers side hinge (see pic). The headlight bezels are fiberglass and the washers are not hooked up even though it does have the correct 5 port pump. The right exhaust pipe is cracked just past the cross member. Please look at all the photos and the video. I have tried my best to describe the Corvette as well as possible. Should I come across anything that I forgot I will try and add it to the listing so do check back. California replacement Title is being processed and will be available. Good luck bidding on this very complete 1971 Corvette. If you have any other questions please feel free to call Chris @ 925 785 8593.
