Vehicle Detail

1963 Honda Hawk CB72, the 250cc version of the 305 Superhawk. Appears to have been originally a black and silver bike. Bike includes extremely nice original '250' tank badges, one original to the bike and another that was included with it, but not mounted. As far as I know, bike has always been in North Dakota, and was probably one of the first Hondas sold in the state. I bought bike from the 2nd owner this past year, and he had owned the bike since 1973. He told me the motor was rebuilt in the 70s and bike was stored shortly thereafter, however, I can't verify this. In any case motor turns over with what sounds like good compression. He said the bike was just used around their farm and the knobby tires seem to validate this. As you can tell from the photos, this would be a restoration project or great for parts, but parting it would be a shame wouldn't it? From my limited time with the bike these are some of the issues I see: headlight and trim ring are missing, possibly some other associated parts. Chain guard is missing. I do have the other side cover not shown in photos, along with the attachment knob. Air filters are shot. Rear tail light looks like it is from some kind of trailer. Some surface rust in places, but most of it should clean up. I thought the rims were rusty, but was able to scrape some crud off with my fingernail and found nice chrome underneath, so possibly just 40 year old dirt or mud? Bike does have surface rust, but doesn't look like your typical left-outside-for-40-years rustbucket. Tank reeks of varnish so will probably need a good flush and clean. Tank does have a dent toward rear, but not too deep and looks repairable; overall tank is pretty presentable. Speedometer looks pretty grubby, but I think it's just years of ground in dust as I was able to run my finger over it to reveal the mileage. There is one crack in the glass, however. Mufflers look to be original but do have some perforation on underside. Shift lever is bent pretty good as is one side of the handlebars. Other than what I've mentioned here, there are probably other issues I'm not aware of. But, heck, the nice tank badges are probably worth the opening bid by themselves! UPDATE: I forgot to mention that the seat is only loosely attached and I'm not sure if the attachment points are still intact. Bike is in my storage area, but I will try to get over there to confirm this by the weekend. In any case, I would figure on locating a different seat/seat pan if you buy the bike. Will not ship or deliver, but will be happy to assist your shipper with pick up. I have clear title in previous owner's name in my possession. No reserve so bid to win. Bidders with low feedback number of 5 or less or excessive negative feedback must email me first or risk having their bid cancelled. Good luck!On Oct-21-11 at 17:11:26 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE #2: I checked the seat again today, and two of the mounts that should attach to the pan are missing. I also took a cursory look at the cylinder cooling fins and they appear to be good with no bent fins or other damage. Carbs are also intact as is the petcock. Last, in my reply to the question posted in the ad, I believe I stated the Frame # is CBV2-24197, when, in fact, it is CB72-24197. See new photos I added today. On Oct-22-11 at 12:11:16 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE #3: There have been a few questions about the VIN #s of the bike. I just wanted to clarify something a knowledgeable ebayer pointed out about them. He informed me that the extra '1' in the motor # is a 'check' number, I'm assuming for QC purposes at the factory. It sounds like a reasonable explanation for why there is an extra digit in the motor VIN.
