1989 XJS Coupe- 5.3L V12, auto trans, fully loaded. 97,532 original miles. Very attractive bronze/gold metallic exterior over buckskin leather interior. This is a clean original California car (been in the state since at least 1996, per DMV records) that has been well kept by the previous owner. This is the desirable late 89 XJS with ABS brakes and Marelli computer controlled ignition system. Great body with what appears to be original paint, nice interior, and much recent major work (rear axle seals, full rear brake job, valve cover gaskets, and more) and some upgrades. Runs and drives well. Awesome set of 18’ XJR wheels with 255-40-18 tires- the car drives like it’s on rails- great handling. (this wheel and tire set was nearly $1000 on its own....). Unfortunately, despite the low miles, the engine developed an occasional light valve noise and a miss when running (typical indication of valve issues on this model), and after storing the car for a year, the owner could not afford further repairs. Bad for him, good for you. Body- good condition with no damage or rust. Car shows well. Paint is good all over except for roof (faded area) and a very small area of clear coat peeling on hood. The front spoiler is on the car and in good shape (usually this is smashed to bits in parking lots/driveways). Excellent glass and chrome (including he chrome plated plastic headlight trim and upper grill). All lights and lenses are very nice- upgraded to Sylvania halogen headlights. Interior- Good shape for its age- front seats very nice with only wear on driver’s bolster (piping) and seat bottom, passenger seat near perfect, and rear seat good as well with good leather and only a few tight seams. Dash wood is nice- wood trim on shifter surround has warped due to heat. The rest of the interior is good- nice door panels, inner rear panels, dash with no cracks, etc.,. The carpets are original and look, but are faded. Die to the long storage, the interior is a bit musty- really needs to be aired out.Electrical- everything works- power windows, power mirrors, all gauges, wipers, lights, power locks, power antenna. The AC or cruise control were not tested due to very limited running time. Other- Besides the engine issue listed above, the engine, transmission and cooling system do not seem to have any excessive leaks, nor is there any smoke. Steering and brakes are fine- car drives, steers, and brakes fine. The XJR wheels are all in good shape with minimal if any curb scrapes. The rear tires are in good shape with much tread remaining; front tires are very close to the end of their life- should be replaced. The owner had just put this set on the car before the engine developed trouble, so he never got a change to replace the tires. (due to the huge size of these wheels and tires, center caps can only be installed on the rear wheels, not the front- this is a small tradeoff for the gigantic improvement in handling brought on by this wheel/tire set). In the trunk is the original full size spare and the original tool set in its bag (jack and lug wrench) This is a good opportunity for a motivated new owner to repair this low mileage V12 , or convert the car to GM V8 power, which would make it a fabulous driver too. The car has a clean California title and the registration expired Aug 2010.IMPORTANT NOTE- The car is offered here starting at $5.30 with no reserve. However, the XJR wheel package will only be included with the car if bidding goes over $1500. If the highest bid for the car is under $1500, then a set of 16" later model XJS wheels and tires will be included instead.
