Vehicle Detail

I'm listing this vehicle for a friend, but I will attempt to describe it as accurately as possible. This auction is for a 1949 Mercury "Lead Sled", (basically the same vehicle depicted in the Sylvester Stallone movie, "Cobra"). It has been lowered, but not chopped. It has "frenched" headlights and tail lights. It is a four-door sedan with "suicide doors". It has shaved door handles, but the electric solenoids will all need replacement. As the pictures show, there are some pretty serious rust problems in some areas, but the only dent on the vehicle is a "fist-sized dent on the hood which was the result of a minor mishap that occured while towing the car. New patch panels are readily available for most of the problem areas on the car. It is believed that the right rear leaf spring is probably cracked, as the vehicle sags a bit on that side. The interior is in pretty good condition. There is some minor mildew evident above the sun visors, but, as the pictures show, the headliner and interior are in pretty good shape with no rips or scars. The car has a 350 cubic inch small block Chevrolet engine with, what is believed to be, a turbo 350 automatic transmission. The vehicle has been off the road for approximately seven years. It has been stored under a covered carport for that period of time. The transmission was rebuilt not long before the vehicle was taken off the road. The engine ran well at the time the car was taken off the road, but the battery died a long time ago and no serious attempt has been made to start the engine lately, but the engine does turn over with a wrench at the crank pulley, so the engine is not seized. Please consider, this is a 62 year old custom car with a great deal of potential. Also, please remember, this is a good sized vehicle and is a lot more comfortable for a six-foot and taller owner than the 1930's hot rods. Obviously, these vehicles are getting rarer and rarer every year. This car is being listed with a low reserve, so if you have any interest and have any specific questions that have not been answered by the above info, feel free to email me at JL1924@optonline.net or call me at 631 281 9073, and I'll do my best to answer. Be advised, all shipping arrangements and costs are, ultimately, the responsibility of the buyer, but the seller is willing to assist in making arrangements as much as possible. Thanks. Additional info posted 9/27/11 --- The owner has advised that, not only is the engine not seized, but he got it up and running yesterday and the engine appears to be in good running condition. Also, as far a payment goes, the only PayPal payment I would accept is $200.00, non-refundable, deposit within 48 hours from the end of the auction, but the balance must be paid, in cash, upon pickup. Thanks. On Oct-01-11 at 08:49:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional info posted 10/01/11 --- The suspected cracked spring was checked out further and it turns out there is nothing wrong with the spring or it's mounts. What seemed to have happened is the tire pressure was extremely low and when the car was transported with a front wheel dolly, the car sat low enough to rub the tire until the tire actually blew out. The tire was changed and nothing rubs now and it sits normal. Thanks.
