Rare 1966 Thunderbird Convertible, 80k documented miles, 428 V8 up for auction, bid early and often! This Thunderbird is the highly sought after convertible model. Options include six position power driver's seat, power windows including power vent windows, "swing away" steering wheel, interior trim upgrades, sequential turn signals (they light up 1,2,3) and the desirable 428 V8. From Wikipedia: "Newly optional for 1966 and taking the top position for performance was a 428 cu in (7.0 L) V8 with a 4BBL carb and 10:1 compression producing an impressive 345 horsepower." Only 5049 Thunderbird convertibles were built in 1966 and are becoming increasingly rare and valuable. Bought from an older woman who owned it since 1992, inherited from her dad. She kept service records for the last 20+ years and always kept it garaged. Over the last ten years the Thunderbird got brake and fuel lines, wheel cylinders, dual exhaust and an entire front end rebuild (tie rods, bushings, shocks, etc) including the column shifter reconditioning that cured the infamous "shifting when in park" Thunderbird issue. All regular maintenance has been done at recommended intervals including fluid changes, brakes, etc. 80k mileage is original, documented through service records. Convertible top was replaced in 2000, top has no rips and looks good. When the top was done the trunk weatherstripping was replaced, the top relays replaced as well as the hydraulic hoses and pump. The retractable convertible top design was ahead of its time and complicated (top retracts fully into trunk area) and finding a convertible Thunderbird with a properly working top is a bonus. New interior carpet installed at the same time the top was done. Trunk and floors are solid, never patched. I recently had the valve cover gaskets replaced as well as a full tuneup. 428 V8 runs incredibly smooth and quiet- you can barely hear it running unless you're standing right near the car. Solid all around, car is very straight, doors close easily. Paint is original, has some scratches but still shines up decently, looks good from 10 feet but could at very least use a compounding. Bumpers are shiny, all there and straight. Interior is in great shape, dash perfect with no cracks or warping (dash may have been replaced, it's immaculate), seats and door panels very good, driver's seat showing some wear. Gas guage hasn't worked since I've owned her, front window motors have been replaced, rear windows need some help going up. Afermarket "Thunderbird" reproduction cassette player in dash, new speakers front and rear. Horn, dash lights, wipers, and all exterior lights work properly including fender turn signal indicators and glowing green dash which looks really cool at night! Thunderbird is currently on the road with a new inspection sticker. Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly. Runs very strong, LOTS of power from the 428 V8, tracks straight as an arrow and brakes evenly, no pulling or fading, suspension and steering are tight and has the Cruise-O-Matic transmission with the overdrive gear for easy 80 mph cruising..
