A very clean car. On a scale of 1 to 10- I'd have no problem arguing this is an 8. Car was purchased new in Santa Barbara, CA and my wife bought it from that original owner in 2001. The car has never been out of Southern California. Since we've owned It, it has been mostly in the garage but driven occasionally. We have resisted selling because it is in such excellent condition. We had a great place to store it and we thought, like a lot of fine cars, it would be worth more as it got older. Now, we are getting older and cannot take care of this large a residence so we must down size. Moving will force us to pay to have it stored properly and we do not want to do that. The body, paint, glass, and drive train are all in very very good condition. You could easily call them excellent. Interior, including carpets, seats, and everything else is also excellent. Except for the sheepskins which have been on the front seats since it was new, the car is completely original like it came from the factory. There are no leaks of any kind from anywhere on the car. In 2005 I requested a CARFAx Report which shows that there have been no accidents, that the milage is consistent and correct and that there have only been two owners. In 2006 the car passed its California smog test and we had the California DMV Register it as a vehicle that is not in operation so we could store it without paying yearly registration. The car is stored at our private residence near Visalia, CA in Squaw Valley, CA. However, impressive as this 380SL is - it is not perfect. These are the things that I found when I gave it a close inspection; 1. For the first 30 seconds after a cold start the clutch fan makes a little rattle but then it goes away and runs perfect. 2. There is a barely perceptible dent on the left rear corner of the hard top which I had to be in the right light and right angle to notice. 3. There is a body panel that is located between the trunk lid and the rear seat that is called the soft top cover. That body panel has a trim piece that is upholstered in gray leather. That leather is sun cracked. It was cracked when my wife bought it and has not become worse. There is also a scratch in the paint on that panel that is about 3" long that could be touched up. 4. There is some touch up paint chips but I had to look hard to see them as they are tiny. 5. The radio did not respond nor did the electric antenna. This surprised my wife who said she used them with no problem. I suspect something minor like a failed ground etc. I have not removed the hard top to inspect the soft top. My wife says the soft top is in good shape and she is very particular. Please be aware that we are in our 70's, do not live near a dealer and are not capable or strong enough to remove lift the hard top, and inspect the soft top, and return the hard top correctly without the possibility of damage.
