Vehicle Detail

Here are the details on this Classic Fastback... I acquired the car from my 90+ year old friend/neighbor when he finally had to move into a care facility. He had owned the car since January 20, 1969, when it had only 3,100 miles on it (I have a copy of this Transfer and Registration). Over the 40+ years of owning it, he only only put another 100,000 miles on it, as it had 105,328 on it when I bought it in April of 2010. My neighbor always kept it garaged, as have I since acquiring it. I've had it looked at by members from the area's Mustang Club and local mechanic and will try my best to provide the good, and the bad, as they have been explained to me - It has never been in an accident. It is very straight and is in fantastic "original" condition. With the exception of the 1970's paint (a root-beer metallic), nice chrome wire wheels, and some "safety" door trim (as the previous owner put it) and splash guards, it is literally exactly as it came from the factory. The carpet, seats, floor mats, head liner, etc. are all original and in great shape. It has never been smoked in! It also comes with original Owner's Manual, rims, and hub caps. The car was produced in San Jose, has the original 289 2V engine, and was originally Wimbledon White in color. Unfortunately, during the 1970's it was painted the present root-beer brown because my neighbor's daughter thought the "white-on-white was boring" and wanted a better color. The paint job is actually a good one, but it's not original. Literally everything else is "stock" and in great condition. The front seats are and have been covered with sheepskin covers. Other than a small (maybe 1-inch) tear along a seam in the drivers seat portion, they are in excellent condition. It has the "optional" fold-down rear seat, power steering, and front hood blinkers. Mechanically the car is very sound. It starts easily every time and runs well. It drives and stops straight. Since owning it, I have put in a new radiator, valve cover gaskets, and belts. All the glass is original and in good shape, except for the windshield which has a crack in it. The clock does not run, and I have not tested the radio since the nobs were off when I got it and kept in the glove box. The antenna was broke off, but I have a replacement one for it. The plaid trunk liners are also new, added by me. The paint has a couple of small chips and a couple of small (maybe 1/2 inch) areas which have raised slightly. There is some rusting in "typical" areas on the car, such as on the side strut mount areas under the hood, a couple of small areas on the edges of the fender wells and doors, and some in the trunk. On the passenger side of the raised trunk area there is an area that is rusted through (maybe 2 x 3 inches or so). I am certainly no expert, but I have been told these are pretty typical in older Mustangs and aren't really considered serious problems. There is no rust on the cowling area or above the doors, etc. that can be more problematic. My mechanic said that there were no signs of any significant rust problems under the car when he had it up on the hoist for a look. Low, negative, or no feedback bids will be cancelled - if you have concerns, please contact me before bidding. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I will not sell it outside of this acution to anyone, nor will I tell you my minimum price, so please do not ask. This car is a beautiful classic that is a great "driver" just as it is. Happy Bidding!!! On Sep-14-11 at 10:02:51 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: The rust-though is confined to the area/part known as the "trunk floor extension" which is a $15 part in Mac's Auto Parts catalog. Upon a closer look at the driver's side trunk extension, it too has a weak area that is nearly rusted through as well. Not real knowledgable, but the brakes on the front look to be disk since I don't see rotors or pads like I have on my newer vehicles. On Sep-17-11 at 16:10:30 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: Let me add the following in clarifying the rust areas under the hood...these are actually NOT on the strut areas, but rather are better described as being on the flat metal piece that goes along each side of the engine compartment that is actually the part that the fender is bolted/attached to. If you look at picture #12 in the series you can see the two areas on the driver's side. The first is just to the right of the hood hinge/spring on black flat area that the brown fender is bolted to. The other spot on this side is just to the right and just beyond the windshield washer fluid reservoir. The other side of the engine compartment has the same areas showing some rust.
