Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1972 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 4-speed. This is 1 of only 101 four speed Stage 1 hardtops produced during the 1972 model year. Furthermore, it is 1 of 26 produced with the 4-speed transmission and factory air conditioning combination. The car has been documented by the Buick Historical Society in Flint, MI as a true Stage 1 455 car and can be further verified by the "V" stamped in the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) located on the dash board. The body/trim tag on cowl shows a build code of 12 B, which is the 2nd week of December - 1971. The factory color is Burnished Copper (paint code 63-63) with no vinyl top. A few of the numerous factory options shown in the reproduced window sticker below are: air conditioning; 24 hour rallye clock; four speed consolette; body colored sport mirrors; power windows & driver's seat and deluxe bucket seat interior. The car is rusty, as a 40 year old vehicle that's been a Northeast car its entire life commonly is. The floors, trunk and all other usual sheet metal associated with a restoration should be replaced. The frame appears solid as does the (commonly rusted) area of the rear window/deck lid filler. I'll attribute that to the car never having a vinyl top. New replacement floor pans and a reproduction quarter panel are included in the auction. In the interest of full disclosure, I have verified the engine to be a WS block, which is correct for a 1972 Stage 1 Gran Sport. I looked extensively for the VIN on the block and it's possible it's obstructed by the timing case cover gasket. The engine was rebuilt shortly before I acquired it, having less than 500 miles since the .030 over rebuild. A replacement M20 Muncie was rebuilt and installed in 2003 and has less than 5 miles on it, as does the original factory installed Hurst shifter, which was rebuilt by renowned Hurst expert Pete Serio at Precision Pontiac in Columbus, OH. The car appears to have it's original 3.42 geared 10 Bolt rear end. The Gran Sport runs, shifts and stops well and can be tuned up, put on the road and enjoyed while it's being restored. If more pictures are needed, please ask. While this car needs and deserves a complete restoration, it DOES come with ALL Stage 1 specific OEM parts. The 7042242 Rochester Quadrajet and original 1112016 factory distributor are also included in the auction, limiting any extra leg work after this auction is complete. These two big dollar items alone are becoming increasingly scarce. Please ask any questions PRIOR to bidding. I will answer them to the best of my ability. This auction is limited to bidders inside the United States ONLY. NO overseas bidders, please. The car is located about 40 minutes South of Boston, MA and any potential bidders are strongly encouraged and welcome to come and have a look before bidding. A truckload of extra OEM and NOS parts, some of which are listed below, are included in the auction.
