Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is an extremely nice unrestored 1961 Chevrolet Parkwood wagon! It's got patina for days... History Chevrolet's most popular models-Again, for 1961, the Impala, Bel Air and Biscayne have what it takes to make it America's most popular model! Chevy's new slim finless design made it easier than before to drive, park and garage. With clean lines promising lasting beauty and value. Such comforts included a glove box light, automatic dome light, foam cushioned seats front and rear, color-matched carpet and rubber floor mats, deluxe door handles and window cranks, twin rear ashtrays and deluxe steering wheel with a thumb button horn. The Parkwood Station wagon had the same trim as the Bel Air, but displayed a "Parkwood" script on the rear fender. Vehicle History This is a very nice original unrestored 1961 Chevrolet Parkwood. It is a rare original Los Angeles (Van Nuys plant) built vehicle. A dry southern California its entire life. A friend of mine recently located the car in dry Fresno California. It sat in a shed on four flat tires since 1996. Since locating the car it was tuned up and made road worthy. Today it runs and drives excellent! It is 95% original. It is a bit sun bleached, but original. It has a few bubbles and surface rust around the lower part of the tail gate and very minor bubbles on two of the lower doors. You can see on the hood where the paint got a little thin and the previous owner foolishly tried to touch it up (approx. 12x18 in). I considered repainting the whole car, but figured the next owner would want to know exactly what is under the paint. All panels line up lazer straight. The paint has the undesturbed original patina to it. Chrome/Stainless All the chrome and stainless is original and complete. All unrestored but in great shape. Engine Engine is a numbers numbers matching 282 2 Barrell Carburator 170 HP 275 LB torque with 58,800 original miles. It has never been rebuilt, hot rodded or out of the vehicle. I simply cannot begin to explain how nice this car runs and drives. It turns over with the first bump of the key. No need to pump the gas or multiple turns of the key. It has a very nice low idle. It is so quiet, you may not even realize its on. I would not hesitate to drive this car 1000 miles today! Transmission Original powerglide shifts easy. Freeway friendly and original to the vehicle. Interior The car has the original copper interior. It was ordered with a rare vinyl/cloth Bel Air interior upgrade. The door panels are original and in excellent shape (nothing missing). The seats are original and excellent shape. The floors were ordered with a rare multisurface loop carpet, floor mat combination. The floor sections have a factory integrated rubberized surface. The car also has a factory padded dash. Rear cargo area is clean and complete. Options The car was ordered with power steering, manual brakes, two speed wipers (with electric wiper fluid squirters) AM radio, padded dash, upgraded interior and folding rear seat. The AM radio lights up but I cannot seem to get a good chanel. Needs The paint is original and sun bleached. The rear passenger door handle is not working but should be fixed before the car sells. The gas gauge works when it wants. The lower part of the rear lift gate has some bubbling with very minor rust. TERMS The winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours. A non refundable deposit of $500 is due within 48 hours and full payment due within four business days. The car is being sold "as is, where is" no warranties experessed or implied. Buyer pays shipping. I can store the car for a few weeks and will work with your shipper to have it picked up.The car must be paid in full before it leaves. I encourage questions via email or by phone. I can be contacted at (714) 234-6095. PLEASE do not call or email just to ask, "What's the reserve." I encourage all serious buyers to inspect the car for themselves. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. It will be sold with a clear California title. Auction ends on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 2:00 pm (PST). Miscellaneous The car has a lot of other little things that make it special. The head lights, brights, turn signals, dashboard "dummy lights," wipers, speedometer amd odometer, ALL WORK! It maintains its original T3 head lights. The turn signals still have slight bell sound when activated. The heater, ACC, defroster and vents ALL WORK like new.The glass is all original and flawless. The doors open and shut efforlessly. No sag or crazy loud rattling when closing. The car was undercoated from the factory which has helped preserve it. All rockers, floor pans and braces are rock solid and original. Never any patches or thick aftermarket undercoating. The steering is nice and tight. The car has new full length exhaust. The drip rails are excellent. Front and rear California one piece bumpers. Also, $900 worth of new tires with less then 10 miles on them. Drive it and you will be convinced the miles are original. The strongest part about this car is its undesturbed originality. A car can be restored an infinant amount of times, but is original only once. I recently got this car from a good friend. My original thoughts were to repaint it, put some 20's on it and bag it. I really belive this car would be much more appreciated by someone who can appreciate its originality. If it doesn't sell, I am going to have my way with it. I have owned a lot of classics (some in the $50k range) and not had the confidence I do in driving this wagon. I believe the new owner could fly in and drive this car home!On Sep-14-11 at 21:43:33 PDT, seller added the following information: I HAVE REMOVED THE RESERVE. THE RESERVE IS OFF. BID TO OWN!
