Vehicle Detail
Up for bid...an '87 944 NA.... I acquired this vehicle with the idea that it would eventually be a backup to our race car. Those times, unfortunately, have passed and, although I still have the race car, plans have changed, and this one (along with the race car) must go. It is not a perfect car but it is not all that bad either. Among other things, it does have the m220 limited slip option which, from a performance standpoint, makes the 944 a different car altogether and much preferred by racers. It works perfectly. The good... It is a 5 speed. Mechanically, as with most 944's, this car starts and runs great. The engine is really strong, has great oil pressure, runs cool, and there are no weird noises from either the trans or the differential. When I got the car it needed some things to make it work. It got a cylinder head from our racing spares along with new belts, hoses, and air cleaner. It has the later type suspension preferred by racers. It is relatively unmolested, still having the original a/c system, cruise control, power windows, spare, jack, and even the original tool kit. Interior is so-so. The front seats are nice (linen), back seat bottom not original. Has the normal cracks in the dash. Carpets are pretty nice. All the lights and turn signals work as they should. The power steering pump is rebuilt..I also replaced the windshield with a brand new one. It has a new battery. Limited slip differential is a very rare, expensive, and desirable option on these cars. The bad... The car has 162k miles. Not really that bad as these vehicles go ( it was 20 yrs old in '07 after all). Car was never licensed...by me. ( I DO have a clear title). the car has been sitting. (I have spent the last week getting it up and running) battery, etc. Door locks were replaced but need adjustment. Paint and body are so-so. Has nicks and dings and could use a good detail. No major dents or anything real noticeable, and could very easily be driven around as is. I would give it a 5 or 6 for the paint. Will need rear tires soon. Steering feels a bit stiff although getting better from being driven (probably from sitting). Needs rear shocks bad. The tach does not work (but did before it was parked) and the volt meter isn't working but did work before also (my guess is a plug or ground). My multimeter shows that the alternator is working fine however. The electric sunroof opener is not working. Parts to repair go with the car. No radio or speakers. A/C is not working, although it is all there. Don't know whether or not the cruise is working, but it is all there also. Bottom line is, this is not a bad little car and, depending on how energetic you are, can be a great weekend warrior or a nice enough daily driver. I hope I have covered everything. If there are questions, just ask. Due to far too many projects, I just do not have the time to put into this ride. Did I mention the great gas mileage these cars get? I'm starting this car really cheap and far below what I have invested. Please read the text I have provided thoroughly to avoid any disappointments.
