Vehicle Detail

Extremely Rare G7 Javelin HISTORY: This 1974 AMC Javelin was built late in August 1974, making it one of the last Javelin's built. What makes this one special and unique is the color. All white 1971-1974 Javelin's were painted Snow White (bright-white) Code A1. However, this Javelin was painted Alpine White (off-white) Code G7 from the factory. Alpine White was never offered on the Javelin or any AMC model at that time. It was a color for 1975-1978 models only. This is one of those freak occurrences when the manufacturer is in a transitional period like AMC was in 1974 and production on models run late into the year. VIN: A4C797H490621 BODY: 081935 MODEL: 7479-7 TRIM: 4260 PAINT: G7 SEQUENCE: E2692793 This car is stock and mostly original with 110,800 miles. The history is rather simple from what I could gather. It had two owners for most of it's life with the second owner having it the majority of the time in WV/PA. He became ill and sold it to the third owner in Ohio. The third owner had it for a year before selling it to me. I put 800 miles on the car this summer taking it to car shows/cruises on the weekends. It drives exceptionally well and it ran cool in the 90 degree heat with its factory Heavy-Duty cooling system. I even took home a few trophies. DRIVETRAIN: The original engine is a 304 V8 and runs great. It doesn't smoke or burn oil. The internals are very clean because the majority owner was faithful with regular oil changes. Even after 800 miles of driving after the oil change, the oil looks like you just poured it in. A professional tune-up was performed with all new plugs, filters, ignition components, thermostat and proper adjustments. I estimate I'm getting around 15 mpg average with local driving. The original transmission is a Heavier-Duty 998 Torque-Command 3-speed automatic. It received regular maintenance as the shifts are crisp and the fluid clean. I dropped the pan myself and changed the filter and the pan was clean. Also installed a new shift linkage seal. The original rear end is a Heavy-Duty AMC 20 with the optional 3:15 gear ratio. The fluid was changed last year. It is quiet and tight. INTERIOR: The original saddle interior is in excellent condition. The headliner, sunvisors, seats, dash, panels and pull strap are all nice. The white silk-screen print on the dash is in amazing condition. Even the knobs are nice. There are a few seams coming apart on the seats and the carpet is UV faded on the high spots. The speaker grills in the rear package tray are deteriorating. But overall it's really nice for being untouched. TRIM, SEALS, ETC: The bumpers on this car are beautiful and I believe they are the original bumpers. Most of the trim is good with a few pieces showing their age. The side mirror is a newer aftermarket piece. The glass is really nice. The dew wipes have cracks, but they are still flexible. The trunk and door seals are good and the window seals are excellent. The rally wheel beauty rings have some marks, while the center caps and door handles have some pitting. The wiper blades are new and correct stainless for the era. ELECTRICAL: Everything works great. The wiring is not hacked up on this car. Everything is how it should be. The fuse box and under dash wiring is tight. All the lights work, all the dash lights work and everything is bright at the proper voltage. The gauges, speedo, wipers, washers, horn, turn-signals, turn-cancel and indicators all work. BODY & PAINT: As mentioned in the introduction, what makes this one rare is the color. All white 1971-1974 Javelin's were painted Snow White, while this Javelin was painted Alpine White. The G7 color was never offered on the Javelin or any AMC model at that time. It was a 1975-1978 color only. The car was repainted once about 15 years ago. It is base-coat/clear-coat in the factory Alpine White color. They did a nice job and it is holding up very well. It is a beautiful color because it changes depending on the light. Some angles it's white and others it looks eggnog. I've had many people come up to me at car events to ask me about the color and tell me how it looks better than just regular white. The paint has a great shine and looks good even up close. There are no dings or dents, no scratches, just a few tiny marks and imperfections here and there. I would rate the paint an 8 out of 10. The gold rally stripe is a factory stripe and compliments the exterior/interior colors nicely. The body and undercarriage is also nice especially for this region. All the panels are straight and solid. The lower rear quarter panels had some patch work when it was painted and are blistering at the bottoms. The left front fender was replaced due to rust and the rear spoiler was added at the same time. The frame, floors and trunk are all solid. For a Northeastern car that has been driven for the majority of it's life it doesn't get much better. I provided 20 undercarriage pictures. MISCELLANEOUS: It has power steering and power disc brakes. The front brakes were recently replaced as were the hoses with new fluid. It stops straight, quietly and effortlessly. It goes down the road straight and the steering feels tight. The dual exhaust is factory style and has a nice mellow tone. All four tires are matching in the correct size with 80% tread. The car runs, shifts and drives excellent. There are no drive-ability issues. It rides tight and is not a rattle trap. All the door handles, locks, hood release and window cranks work. The only things on this car that don't work are the radio and A/C. This is not a restored car or a show car. It is a very nice 37-year-old car with many little flaws. It has been driven, maintained and loved for the majority of it's life and it shows. I really enjoyed this car over the past year, selling it to fund other projects and sad to see it go.
