REPEAT- REPEAT- PERIOD CORRECT AIR CONDITIONING!!!!! RARE! RARE! RARE! RARE!! and we mean really rare!! VERY LITTLE CORROSION!! OLDS 371 ROCKET V-8 Making its debut in 1957 as standard equipment on all Olds models, the 371 was produced through 1960. Bore was now 4.0 in (100 mm) (same as the 327 and 350 Chevys) and stroke was increased to 3.6875 in (93.66 mm) for 371 cu in (6.1 L). 1959 and 1960 371s used green painted valve covers. 4-barrel models used 9.25:1 compression in 1957 and 10:1 in 1958 for 277 hp (207 kW) and 400 lb·ft (540 N·m) and 305 hp (227 kW) and 410 lb·ft (560 N·m) respectively. A 1958 2-barrel version was still impressive at 265 hp (198 kW) and 390 lb·ft (530 N·m), 1958 WAS THE POWERFUL ONE. Then, power nosed downward for the 1959 and 1960 88 model: 270 hp (200 kW) and 390 lb·ft (530 N·m) for 1959 and 240 hp (180 kW) and 375 lb·ft (508 N·m) for 1960. It was no longer available in cars in 1961. With 371 CID motor and HYDRA-MATIC tranny!! Real 371's are gettin hard to find!!!!! This 88 is a super reliable southwestern daily driver, perfect for the old CAR hobby. Runs super! This is a spectacular, increasingly rare and well- cared for resto-rod!!! RARE, RARE, RARE!! AND WE MEAN REALLY RARE!! THIS IS ONE OF THE VERY FEW SURVIVING EXAMPLES OF THAT RARE AND DESIREABLE COMBINATION!!!! Early YEAR of an extraordinarily successful production run!! Considered at least as desirable as an expensive Chevy SSR Roadster truck and it has those cool hot rod touches that the FoMoCo never even thought to add! This 88 is a really nice southwestern vehicle. Very solid! Wow! It runs and drives GREAT! Runs fast and stops good, which is helpful given that thumpin’ V-8 power-plant! Very solid! Just tuned up! New plugs points and condenser! Wow! It runs and drives like it is ready for the AMERICAN GRAFITTI DRAG STRIP WITH JOHN MILNER DRIVING!!! If you are the high bidder and if you inspect it here at my place after the auction and if you don’t like it FOR ANY REASON (a good reason, a bad reason or no reason at all) you DO NOT HAVE TO BUY IT. Just pay me for the eBay fees and the costs of re-listing it. That’s all I ask. If you don’t buy it, I feel confident that another car guy or GM collector will! Guys around here like my OLDS and YOU WILL TOO. This is our hobby and it is supposed to be FUN! No risk. Just frickin FUN! Swag like this doesn’t come along just every old day. This is an OKLAHOMA OLDS! Route 66 RULES! This REGAL LADY has been driven regularly, but carefully, around town. Plus, we have taken her on jaunts to nearby towns like Medford, Lahoma, Waukomis, Fairmont and Covington. Probably going to Wichita for some Italian this weekend or next. NEVER A PROBLEM! This is a reliable SEDAN that has never, not once, not ever let me down. I love this hardtop. Heads turn at the grain elevators and the Co-Op’s, that’s for sure! For her age, she has been very dependable. The typical sports 88 hobbyist could EASILY make this OLDS a daily driver. Wow! It has been very dependable for us. Double Wow! As you know, the 1958 Ransom E. Olds 88 hardtop is built to last if they are at all cared for, with the cast-iron block and the tried and true 371 engine all being extremely reliable. This power plant is considered one of THE GENERAL’S best-ever motors! Our research indicates that less than 33% came from the factory with this RARE combination of FACTORY OPTIONS! WOW! Combine that with absolutely incredible fuel economy from the multi-barrel carb and you have a very good value in a collectible CAR, perfect for the old CAR hobby. There is a real following for the Rocket 88 because they are so powerful, comfortable and stylish. Great ‘long hood/short deck’ styling. There is no need to pay $25,000 for a great 50'S CAR! Someone is gonna get a bargain!!!! This 88 is a super reliable southwestern daily driver, perfect for the old car hobby. Runs super! This is a spectacular, increasingly rare and well-cared for CAR. We have had a blast driving it around our little town this summer. Heads turn. We bought this nice car intending to keep it forever! This car has been stowed away in around our small town for years and years. After asking, we finally talked one of our local grandmas into parting with it. I think her granddaughter wants to get married and she needed cash!. Bet this CAR lasts longer than her ROMANCE. Hee Hee. This lady just loved anything fast and low, this 88 has that in SPADES. What luck that she kept this one in such shape! We have had a blast driving it around our little town this spring and summer with the windows down!! This car is perfect for the old car hobby! This Baby is READY right out of the chute! None of that “it could use a tune up” stuff that typify doggy old cars and trucks. This car is BITCHEN right now, out of the box. It don’t need no stinkin tune up! It runs like a scalded cat!! Please, use high-test gas! You won’t be sorry! This is the CAR that your FATHER would NOT let you have in HIGH SCHOOL (“Wouldn’t be prudent, son.”). This car is perfect for the old car hobby! All the real TIME CONSUMING tasks have been done for you, the sort of careful but necessary work that is often overlooked on a lesser RESTORATION! ORIGINAL IS BETTER!! All the hard work has been done for you. Nothing remains! Just jump in and DRIVE! NOTHING MUCH IS LEFT TO BE DONE ON THIS ROCKET! It is functional and original!!! The car has downright LOW MILEAGE!!!! The great condition of the car emphasizes the FANTASTIC BARGAIN… ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!!!!! THIS OLDS 88 MOST LIKELY ONLY HAS 89,991 ORIGINAL MILES!!!! REPEAT. REPEAT. REPEAT: THIS OLDS MOST LIKELY ONLY HAS BEEN DRIVEN 89,991 MILES!!!!!! YOU JUST CAN'T FIND THESE LOW MILEAGE CLASSIC 88's BECAUSE THEY WERE SO GOOD THEY WERE USED AND USED AND USED!!!!!! THIS hardtop IS TRULY ONE OF A KIND!!!!!! This CAR is a survivor and a real FIND with MOST LIKELY ONLY 89,991 miles! YES, MOST LIKELY ONLY 89,991 ACTUAL MILES!!!! The odometer shows an amazingly LOW 89,991 miles, consistent with the vehicle's GREAT overall condition. We have every reason to believe this is ORIGINAL MILEAGE, but heck, who can be sure of that after all these years? The vehicle’s outstanding overall condition SPEAKS FOR ITSELF! Just try to find one with fewer miles! We double dog dare you! We said unmolested and Farmer Joe and the little Miss kept it just the way it came from the factory. This must have been his ‘dress up and go to town’ car. It still fires up perfectly and should be a real hit at the next car show you attend, perfect for the old 50's car hobby!!! There is no need to pay $35,000 for a plastic Chevy SSR. GET THE REAL THING for MUCH LESS. Tradesmen in our neck of the woods typically take care of their EQUIPMENT and this truck is proof of that. Detroit just ain’t makin 'em like this anymore! Neither is South Bend! Everything appears to work. We could all ask to look so good at age 53. A lot of newer wimpy Japanese stuff won’t look this good after a first rain storm or splash in a little mud puddle, let alone after 53 YEARS. WHAT A FIND THIS 88 REALLY IS!!! I would say that you probably can’t find too many of these classic 88's in this condition anymore, they are getting rare in such solid condition. This OLDS is a find, perfect for the old car hobby!!! Someone is gonna get a bargain!!!! This 88 has been done RIGHT. This is a beautiful and dependable piece. This OLDS starts runs and drives straight and tight. We love it! Look at the pics! We put in as many as eBay would allow and have lots more! Just ask! This OLDS will give you years of driving enjoyment, not to mention all the attention you could possibly want. This REGAL LADY has been driven regularly, but carefully, around town. Plus, we have taken her on a couple of jaunts to nearby towns. Heads turn at the cattle feed lots and the farm supply store that’s for sure! For her age, she has been very dependable. Wow! It has been very dependable. Wow! Note the small details that add up to the total Beauty of this package. Appears to have always been well taken care of and to have enjoyed regular maintenance, regular oil changes, regular tune-ups, etc., etc. It is in really great shape for a vehicle of this rare vintage. One tap of the throttle and you will be in love, or should we say lust. Those cool rocket V-8’s just LOVE to get a little gas and GO! If I was the type, I could sure light up those fat rear meats. I mean this baby just humms. I’m sorry Officer O’Malley, did I just blow through your two bit little town? Catch me if you can, copper! Jimmy Cagney has nuthin on us! Okay, maybe I exaggerate (a little)... Even though it probably was not kept in the garage every single night BEFORE 1980, it is still a remarkably clean and presentable vehicle. This vehicle is a blast to drive! Fellas, this 88 is an absolute BLAST to drive! It has been well cared for, given the passage of time. And the list goes on. Over the years we have owned and loved more than a couple of these increasingly rare and always sought after GLAMOUR 50's hardtops and they all feel different. Each one has its own special personality. This White BEAST has the unmistakable feel of an original 50's mobile. Seems tight and still just as smoooooth as silk, always with the highest possible degree of "COOL". Probably has the “SUPER SPORT” or maybe the “RALLY SUPER SPORT” package AND the “DELUX” interior, who knows? Did they even OFFER such LUXURY back in the summer of ‘58? Looking for a Bee-U-Tee-Ful show stopper that is still civilized enough to take to that nice little Italian Restaurant uptown, but just begging for just a little push on the pedal to turn absolutely beastly? Here is the turn key one for you! Dont let the spectacularly bright hues and sharp colors fool you. Lurking beneath the hood is the super muscle to back up the beauty! Do your part to help tame this beast! This CAR has a really NICE, installed, straight and true, CHROME bumpers in the front and rear look a lot more stylish and tasteful than the monstrosity found on your neighbor’s fancy-pants Land Rover. We just love that PERIOD CORRECT car. All it needs is a 'SO-CAL SPEED SHOP' rear window decal to make it PERFECT!!!! How about a Big Daddy Rat decal?? WHEN is the LAST TIME you saw one of those??? The LANSING MICH. MUSEUM might want this vintage and unmolested Rocket for their permanent archive! How many have survived? Who knows, but this is the one and only specimen quite like this that we have EVER SEEN! Maybe this is the ONLY ONE IN CAPTIVITY! We felt BLESSED to find such a NICE, NICE, NICE example. Wow! Someone’s gonna get a BARGAIN! This OLDS was simply YEARS ahead of its TIME! STUNNING! SEAMLESS! AERODYNAMIC! JET AGE! Autobahn? We don’t need no stinkin Autobahn! Route 66 right here in good old Oklahoma is good enough for us! WOW! No need to watch out for John Law. Cops don’t expect BLAZIN white Old’s to have almost 200 bhp! This ain’t no ‘flying brick’ like a wheezy 1978 FORD. It just FLIES! By the way, the insurance is down right cheap on this thing. I was really surprised. GEICO all the way! We have had great luck with CARFAX and recommend the service. This one is a real HONEY. Heads turn! We bought this nice OLDS intending to keep it forever! This CAR is perfect for the old car hobby! I don’t especially want to sell it, but I have my eye on a second hand tractor and the hot rod has to go… Oh well. Its just a car, but what a car! PLEASE NOTE THAT this late fifties car has all the late 1950's updates, including those related to safety! THOSE EARLIER MODELS DON'T... There is a real following for these 50's GM SLEDS because they are so economical and so stylish. Safety first! Personally, I wouldn’t drive a vehicle allow loved ones travel without custom padded dash, custom brake and accelerator pedals, Headrests, turned STRAIGHT brake drums, DUAL MASTER CYLINDER, Shatterproof and laminated safety glass, Sealed beam headlamps, bias ply tires, Heavy gauge steel body panels and a heavy gauge steel frame, Crash zones, great forward visibility, welded construction (NOT bolted), safety positioned gas tank, The bone fide “weight advantage” that only genuine Detroit iron brings to the superslab. Roll on! Your best girl will be safe at all times! She will still have to hold on tight, however. As you know, these 88's, especially with the V-8, are built to last if they are at all cared for, and the cast iron V-8 is extremely reliable. JUST TUNED UP!! Combine that with incredible POWER, much, much better than the weak kneed straight 6, and you have a very good value in a collectible car. Combine that with incredible fuel economy, and you have a very good value in an collectible 50's car. Probably gets 20 MPG on the superslab, good buddy! This is one of the General’s BEST MOTORS! Balanced, smooth and vibration free. WAY SMOOTHER than Y-HEAD FORD of the same era. The incredible TORQUE of the v-8 is legendary. IMPOSING sports sedan STYLING, much better than the current batch of Japanese full size cars, in our humble opinion (and in the opinion of most professional automotive stylists)… My colors don’t run! MILESTONE STYLING! Beautiful, crisp, late 1950’s styling!! MOST COLLECTORS AGREE THAT 1958 IS THE MOST HANDSOME AND SOUGHT AFTER MODEL YEAR in the 88 series!!! It sure has the most chrome!!! CHROME AND MORE CHROME!! Indeed. This 50's sweetie is already super clean (must be one of the best examples left), but a $65 Big City detail job would make this car fitting for a weekend trip out to the NASCAR Races or an especially stylish trip to the Home Depot for that new gas grill or bag of potting soil you have been needing. And, you will NEVER have trouble spotting this BRIGHT WHITE beauty in a crowded parking lot! They just aren’t makin ‘em like this anymore! This 88 is perfect for the old 50's AUTO hobby! This is an Oklahoma car and is in the sought after original white paint with chrome accents and a tan interior. THIS OLDS MIGHT END UP IN A MUSEUM SOME DAY or on the cover of “Classic OLDS” magazine!!! If you have been looking for a nice classic OLDSMOBILE, you have found a really great one! This truck is perfect for the old CAR hobby! By the way- no high school boys or well meaning ‘pretenders’ have cobbled up or tore up or screwed up this car. It was engineered right from the day it was built and we have tried to keep it that way. It needs no additional aftermarket add ons. JC Whitney need not apply! There is no need to pay $27,500 for a great collectible OLDS. Someone is gonna get a bargain!!!! Why not go with SOLID AMERICAN IRON? Do those Japs even know how to make a REAL SPORTS SEDAN??? As far as we are concerned, all Japanese COUPES might as well be a Subaru BRAT! SHEESH! All the Krauts know how to do is invade their neighbors! The Italians? Give me a break (or should I say, wait for your Fiat to break, because it will soon enough!). I’m still waiting on the Tommies to build a truck that doesn’t leak fluids. Do the French even have a car industry anymore? Citroen? Get real! SHEESH! OLDSMOBILES ruled the WORLD in the 50's! You aren’t so much buying a vehicle, as you are buying into one of the greatest automotive lifestyles ever invented! Drive a 50'S SPECIAL and make a new friend at every fuel stop and restaurant. Entertain yourself and your neighbors as you drive it around town! And remember, tinkering around with this old machine is just as much fun as driving it. Wow! WOW! eBay has some GREAT ADVICE on buying a used vehicle! We think you should follow it! As eBay says: “Buying or selling a vehicle is both exciting and involved, so it's important to make informed decisions throughout the process.” “Normal wear and tear may be significant in older vehicles.” “Buyers must exercise appropriate care when purchasing a motor vehicle.” “Read the vehicle description thoroughly. The description is the seller's chance to elaborate on all the details of the vehicle - the condition, terms of sale, any guarantee, etc. Some descriptions are better than others, and the best sellers will be very thorough. If you have a question that isn't covered in the description, contact the seller (use the "Ask seller a question" link at the top of the listing). Don't wait until the end of the auction.” “Assume vehicles are sold in "as is" condition. Make an independent assessment of the condition of the vehicle and again, contact the seller with any questions about condition before making an offer. Be realistic in your expectations of used or older vehicles - expect normal "wear and tear". If possible, arrange with the seller to personally visit, or have an inspection service visit the vehicle to ensure accurate representation.” “An inspection is a must have for any vehicle sale or purchase. Sellers can give potential buyers confidence in the description of the car by having an independent third-party verify its condition. Buyers can validate a seller's claims of a car's condition.” We encourage all eBayers to follow this common sense advice! Someone’s gonna get a bargain! We are serious about wanting bidders to inspect this hobby vehicle! We don’t want anyone to be disappointed and an inspection will prevent that! We are not requiring an inspection, but we cannot emphasize enough that an inspection is really important before buying a hobby vehicle! Use your common sense! We wouldn’t buy without an inspection and we are emphatically telling you not to buy without one either! Happy Trails! In 1991, after a great deal of debate, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recognized THE SONG "ROCKET 88" FROM 1952 as the first Rock and Roll song ever recorded. BY IKE Turner The song is about a car. The Oldsmobile "Rocket 88" just came out and was the fastest car on the road at the time. It was advertised as having a V-8 "Rocket" engine. This song was produced by Sam Phillips, who formed Sun Records in 1952. Phillips later became famous for recording Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. Jackie Brenston, who was a member of Ike Turner's Rhythm Kings, sang lead. The single was credited to "Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats" because Phillips wanted to release a different record credited to Turner. This was a #1 R&B hit. There were no Rock charts at the time. HERE ARE THE LYRICS TO "ROCKET 88": You may have heard of jalopies, You heard the noise they make, Let me introduce you to my Rocket '88. Yes it's great, just won't wait, Everybody likes my Rocket '88. Gals will ride in style, Movin' all along . (Guitar solo, leading into steel guitar solo.) V-8 motor and this modern design, My convertible top and the gals don't mind Sportin' with me, ridin' all around town for joy. (Spoken) -- Blow your horn, Rocket, blow your horn! (Horn sound effect leading into guitar solo.)] Step in my Rocket and-a don't be late, We're pullin' out about a half-past-eight. Goin' on the corner and-a havin' some fun, Takin' my Rocket on a long, hot run. Ooh, goin' out, Oozin' and cruisin' along. (Guitar solo.) Now that you've ridden in my Rocket '88, I'll be around every night about eight. You know it's great, don't be late, Everybody likes my Rocket '88. Gals will ride in style, Movin' all along. (Fade out, ending with sound effect of a car driving away.) WOW WOW WOW WOW!!! USED CARS FOR DUMMIES: ATTENTION NEWBIES! We are real proud to offer the following tips BEFORE YOU BUY A USED CAR: 1. Take test drives and have the old hobby car checked by a real mechanic or your husband. Examine the hobby car using an inspection checklist. You can find a checklist in many of the magazine articles, books and Internet sites that deal with buying a used hobby truck. Test drive the hobby car under varied road conditions, like on hills, highways, and in stop-and-go traffic. It's best to have any used car inspected by an independent mechanic before you buy it. For about $100 or less, you'll get a general indication of the mechanical condition of the vehicle. An inspection is always a good idea. A mechanical inspection is different from a safety inspection. Safety inspections usually focus on conditions that make a car unsafe to drive. They are not designed to determine the overall reliability or mechanical condition of a vehicle. To find a pre-purchase inspection facility, check your Yellow Pages under "Automotive Diagnostic Service" or ask friends, relatives, and co-workers for referrals. 9. ASK QUESTIONS, and consider all loan options. We love to talk about cars. Heck, we just love to talk! 10. If you feel hesitant, walk away. There’s always another deal. Wow! Isn’t that just about EXACTLY what Ward told Wally before he bought his first hobby car? We think is great advice! Follow it and have FUN with the old car hobby! We trust eBay buyers will know a good one when they see it. Buy it NOW: We have also put a extremely low BUY IT NOW on the car, so consider snapping this neat car up early as a 'BUY IT NOW' bargain, Thanks, eBayers! Please EMAIL me with any questions, as this is an as-is sale. Bid with confidence, you won’t be disappointed. Wow, eEay offers a 3rd party inspection service for an eBay fee. It’s A-Okay with us if you use that eBay service! We LOVE eBay! Yes! Remember, you are more than welcome to call, email or come look at or drive this vehicle anytime prior to the end of the auction. This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. Do not bid if you have zero points or negative feed back, your bid will be cancelled. The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith. I reserve the right to cancel this auction and sell this car at any time to an early buyer and I invite you to ask about an early sale. This vehicle has an old-fashioned for ‘sale sign’ in the window and is by golly for sale RIGHT NOW to the FIRST buyer who pays in full! Time is always of the essence on an auction sale! Isn’t the “eBay Way” just the GREATEST? The description above is for informational and narrative purposes only. Bidders and Buyers are asked to do their own due diligence. That includes a physical inspection by you or a qualified third party inspector or appraiser. We welcome such an inspection. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, imperfection, defect or damage. I took time to carefully and honestly describe this vehicle, but I am not a car dealer and I am not a professional mechanic. Any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. Be safe and don’t buy a truck sight unseen. All used vehicles have flaws. The mileage stated on the car is read from the mileage showing on the odometer only. I cannot be the guarantor of exact mileage on such an old vehicle. According to Federal Law all cars over 10 years old are sold as ‘mileage exempt’. That makes sense to us. We can only go by what is on the odometer of the vehicle and what we have heard from other members of our small town. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. I am sure I have not been able to list all of this used vehicle’s flaws. That is why it is important to look this vehicle over before bidding! All items sold under Oklahoma law with legal jurisdiction of this transaction in Garfield County. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects associated with this vehicle at the buyer's request prior to the close of sale. We promise good faith and fair dealing, but we are not infallible. The description we have given is to the best of our knowledge, and the pictures are (of course) unaltered to show you just what we see. Since this is a USED vehicle we cannot offer a refund or a return if you should change your mind. This is the eBay way! If you have any doubts about anything, have someone with expert knowledge inspect my car. Obviously, as much as we would like to, we cannot list every single detail on any vehicle here. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle. I live in a small town, but there are several trustworthy mechanics around that you can hire to look my car over. I am not afraid of disappointment, as this is a really good car that is fairly and accurately described. In other words, just the common sense stuff, like: do not assume anything, check it out for yourself, ask us for more detail or talk to your inspector!!! AS IS - NO WARRANTY. There are no secrets on my end. It is important to keep in mind that this vehicle is pre-owned and not brand new. As with any used vehicle, minor signs of wear may become more obvious under close inspection, such as small chips or nicks, light scratches, minor abrasions, minor corrosion, wheel scuffs, light hail and other indications of normal wear and tear. Rather than make an incorrect assumption, if any statement is unclear or if you have questions, address them prior to bidding. Please call or write, and I will be happy to answer your questions. NO CREDIT CARDS: Payment by Paypal cash ort ‘Quasi-Cash (whatever that is) is just fine, but sorry, we cannot accept payment by a Paypal credit card or other credit card or Paypal payment funded by a credit card. Ouch- we have heard other hobbyists talk about scams involving auto agents and cashiers checks from other countries and “reverse-o change-o” credit card payments that evaporate, so we really prefer cash or certified checks for the exact amount of the purchase or wire transfers or good old W. U. All payments (including cashiers checks) are subject to bank verification. And just like on any other used vehicle purchase, the reasonable earnest money down payment is non-refundable, to cover our time and eBay costs. This vehicle is sold ‘As Is’, with no warranties expressed or implied. I reserve the right to cancel bids from those with negative feedback. Placing a bid on this auction means you have read and understand these terms. Thanks for looking and bidding. I CANNOT SEE HOW ANYONE COULD BE DISAPPOINTED IN THIS CAR! Thanks for looking and good luck!!
