1971 Volkswagen Bus - Rust-Free - Excellent Mechanical, Body and InteriorThis '71 VW Deluxe bus was my winter project. I bought it from a California seller. It was totally rust-free with a fresh, well-done paint job. Although it has brackets for seats, the bus came with a custom camper interior that didn't fit my needs, so my first step was to strip out everything behind the front seats, leaving a clean, bare shell. I've left it that way so you can choose whether to set it up for camping or as a transporter. I've adjusted my starting price to account for the cost of completing the interior. I spent the winter getting the engine tuned in; tightening up the shifting; straightening out the wiring; replacing parts that needed replacing; cleaning and painting etc. So now it's a sweet running, solid, and handsome bus. New Parts Among the brand-new parts are: ~ Five Hankook RA08 tires ~ Steering wheel ~ Front floor mat ~ Driver's side retractable seatbelt (the passenger seat has the original non-retractable belt). ~ Front window scrapers ~ Distributor and coil, spark plugs and ignition wires ~ Generator belt and air hoses ~ Shift rod bushings ~ Glove box ~ Interior panels for the front doors and the back of the front seats ~ Front kick panel ~ Brake fluid reservoir Receipts and installation notes for these parts will be included with the bus. I will also include a laminated wiring diagram and the two "bibles" for classic bus owners: The Volkswagen Bus Official Service Manual (Bentley) and How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive. Shortcomings Naturally for a vehicle this age, there are some shortcomings. Here's the list: ~ The overhead interior lights don't work ~ There's a small (2-inch) rip in the center of the headliner and two smaller (1-inch) rips along the back window (see photos) ~ There are three chips in the green paint on and near the sliding door that have been been touched-up. The repairs are okay, but noticeable. (see photos) ~ I have separate keys for the ignition, the rear hatch and the driver's door, but can't get the key to work for the passenger and sliding doors. Photos I've included plenty of photos, but please let me know if there's something else you'd like to see. I'll add those requested photos promptly. The photos of the front footwell show it both with and without the included rubber mat, so you can see that it's rust-free underneath. The photo of the scratch repair shows the worst of the three.
