The Hudson Motor Car Company made Hudson and other brand automobiles in Detroit, Michigan, from 1909 to 1954.In 1954, Hudson merged with Nash-Kelvinator Corporation to form American Motors. The Hudson name was continued through the 1957 model year, after which it was dropped.In 1948 the company launched their "step-down" bodies, which lasted through the 1954 model year. The term step-down referred to Hudson's placement of the passenger compartment down inside the perimeter of the frame; riders stepped down into a floor that was surrounded by the perimeter of the car's frame. The result was not only a safer car, and greater passenger comfort as well, but, through a lower center of gravity, an extremely well-handling car. In time almost all US automakers would embrace it as a means of building bodies. Automotive writer and authority Richard Langworth has written glowingly of the early step-down models stating that "they're one (sic) of greatest" autos of the era in articles for Consumer Guide and Collectible Automobile.This is a 40th Anniversary 1949 Hudson Super Six. She is a desirable 2 door model with the "STEP DOWN" design. The car needs to be restored completely. The car is nearly complete with solid floors with NO RUST THROUGH. There are some exterior body panels that have small easily repairable amounts of rust through. She has a perfect frame. The vehicle is ALL STOCK. This car will make a great cruiser. The car ran before the trans was removed. The transmission is in the trunk of the car now. We were going to restore her. We simply cant do them all. Too many toys at the moment. I hope she sells to a good home if not... We'll just fix her up later! LOL! P.S. Been building cars for over 20 years now and this car is a great place to start for such a rare car. VERY SOLID over all you WILL NOT be disappointed in her foundation at all. Great floors and frame. The body is all there and you shouldn't have to replace ANY panels.
