Vehicle Detail

Selling my beloved Mercedes Benz 240D 4-Speed. I always wanted one of these cars and found the chance about two years ago to grab one and did. I thought I would give it to my daughter when she turned 16, but she wants something newer. This is a 99% straight and 99% rust free CALIFORNIA car. I purchased it from a disabled lady who drove it to Springfield from California. I have a stack of receipts going all the way back to the original purchase + the original manuals and window sticker. The car – For those that know the 240D’s – EVERYTHING was an option. This car came with only two, a cassette deck (long gone) and AC. That’s right, NO power windows no power mirrors, and no sun roof = no future electrical problems. This is the famous W123 Chassis. More cars were made this model then any MB ever. Parts are relatively cheap and they run forever. I purchased the car with 204,000 miles on it. I had the fuel filters changed, oil changed, primer pump replaced, head lights replaced, cooling system flushed, new thermostat installed, new Alpine speakers installed, and new Sony CD player installed, New Sears Die Hard International Gold, New pencil style glow plugs and then drove it, just changing the oil when it needed it. The car had 4 new tires installed at 232,000 miles and the still look new. Good stuff – The car starts, runs, drives, and looks good! This car has NEVER left me stranded. It starts with a turn of the key and idles every time, 100% of the time. I took this car on a trip one time and it sat for two days with temps in the teens in January – it started with the turn of the key. This is an “AS IS” car, but when you show up it WILL START AND DRIVE. Runs straight and true down the road and the engine sounds good. I will let you decided on the looks from the pics. I had not driven this car in six months aside from the occasional starting it and letting it run to keep the battery up. I ran it through a local tunnel wash, vacuumed it, and wiped down the interior and glass. You be the judge, but it looks good, the interior and dash look good. The Zebra wood looks great. The only rust I know of is the very light surface stuff that is in the pics. I could have rubbed it out, but wanted to show it on the finish. For those who know W123’s – the gauges, odometer, speedometer, etc ALL work! (I know it’s rare, but true.) The vacuum system works and the car shuts off and the power locks work! The system does have a very slight leak and not all of the locks will work automatically if the car sits for days. Aside from small spots of touch up paint, this body looks like it has never been repaired in any way, shape, or form. Bad stuff – the car has nicks and dings. There are three dents in the trunk lid, one on the hood, and another on the top of the car. The paint has started to check. (All can be seen in the pictures) Most people don’t notice them, but I do. The driver’s seat and the rear bench have some tares. The headliner is fallen and also has some tears. There is a tear in the driver’s door panel. The driver’s rear door handle fell off, but I still have it. Other minor items – the chrome on the drivers mirror adjustment is pealing and the passenger window knob is missing its cover. The door and window weather stripping is bad and water has just started getting into the cabin and trunk. Carpet is clean, but fair. The driver’s carpet panel was replaced at one time – it is matching Palomino, but is cut style not loop. Car has always had a slight oil leak (she marks her territory) and also a slight burn when temps are cold (slight blue smoke at start-up – hardly noticeable and ONLY when it’s cold out). I check the oil religiously and add as needed. AC is disconnected – has been since I owned it. The glove box spring is broke – latch works, but does not lock automatically. Windshield is pitted/cracked. Radio antenna is broke. Low gas light does not work. Washer fluid tank cracked -- I removed it, but nevery replaced it. (Still have it.) Modifications – I generally like all original stuff, BUT … the original dash was cracked, so I added a plastic cover. Added the radio and speakers. Replaced the original rubber shifter boot with a leather one and replaced the original rubber shifter knob with one of matching zebra wood. Added two 12V accessory ports to the center consol, since anything stuck in the original one would stick up in front of the radio. Has a trailer hitch that was only used to haul my light weight kayak trailer. It is on with just 5 bolts and could easily be removed. Added an OEM arm rest. Oh, comes with an Escort radar detector from the same period. Future stuff – If I kept this car I would start by having the belts and hoses replaced. They were OK when I purchased it, but now due for replacement. Some of the AC parts have started to vibrate loose (common W123) – it all needs to be tightened up and redone. The oil has not been changed in 6 months (I have not been driving it.). Next would be the rear axels (boots are shot). Door and window seals next and then brakes (just started to squeak when applied hard). I HAVE A .PDF FILE WITH 58 PICTURES OF THE CAR. I WILL JUST NEED AN EMAIL ADDRESS IF YOU WANT IT. I prefer local pick up and secure funds not later than 7 days from the end of the auction. Any one is more than welcome to see the car before the auction ends. I would ship if the buyer paid in advance and arranged everything with a car carrier. I’m not giving shipping quotes. I’m not shipping over seas. I’m not doing any kind of funds transfer through some bank in Nigeria. You should have multiple positive feedbacks when you bid, unless you check with me in advance. I don’t want to be difficult, but when this sells I want it gone. No excuse about not having all the money or not running it by your wife/husband or boyfriend/girlfriend. I have been on Ebay for over 10 years with a 100% feedback rating and expect people to be honest and follow through. On Aug-22-11 at 21:00:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Wow! Lots of questions. I guess that means there is some interest. Here is the really BAD video (Hey at least I take good pictures): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bjztt2PdHA Sorry about the radar detector making all the noise on start up. Also had a question on oil usage. On this age car I checked the oil EVERY time I got gas. I'd say it needed to be topped off every 2 - 3 tanks with maybe 1/2 a quart.
