Vehicle Detail
1970 Dodge Challenger Original R/T Near survivor car in very good, very near original condition. This car is about as close to original & unmolested as you can get and is in very good shape. My dad had the car repainted around 1989 and some light body work was done at that time as well. All panels are Original and this car is as he got it new in 1969. The paint is shiny, but is showing signs of age. It has been touched up in areas over the years and will need fresh paint to be like new. It’s not perfect, but could be made perfect. My dad is the original owner of this car. He purchased it new after seeing the new 1970 Challenger at the Detroit Auto Show. My dad brought this car home on December 1st 1969. He sold it to one of his employee’s right before my 16th birthday so that I could not drive it. Since I was foaming at the mouth to drive it since I was a little kid, he was afraid that I would kill myself in this car. After I went out and got a 1965 Mustang, he then bought the car back from his employee and has had it in his garage ever since. As I got older he finally trusted me to treat it with the same care that he had given it. It was purchased at Ray C Larsen Dodge in Clio Michigan. My dad ordered the car new from the factory to his specifications. He custom ordered this car without the R/T stripes and with White seats and Black carpet. It is very rare to have a 383 Magnum powered Challenger R/T equipped this way. It has automatic transmission with column shifter. It’s a Bucket/Column car, not a console, very rare in itself on an R/T add the fact that the car has FACTORY AIR And it gets even more rare. It has been in my heated garage in East Tennessee for several years. Prior to that, it was sitting in my dad’s heated garage in Michigan since new. Garage kept all of its life. I really don’t want to sell it. However, the only reason I am selling it is because I just don't drive it enough to warrant having it sit all the time. I am so busy with my daughters and horse shows that I just don’t drive it and enjoy it as much as I should so it just sits in the garage. The only rust on the car that I have found is under the hood on the inner fender/firewall near the hood hinges. It looks like when the car was repainted 20 years ago that they used some tiger hair to cover up some rust that was starting to come through. It needs to be ground out and repaired properly. The body is very solid. It looks like the rears lower Quarter panels have had patch panels welded in. The floorboards are very solid and the overall metal is good. The trunk pan is overall solid. The car is not show quality!! It is a original un-restored driver that will need some love to be show quality. However, this car is in really good shape overall considering the fact that it’s an original 40 year old car. You can always restore a car, but you can’t make it original again. This car is not perfect; few if any are.....all flaws are detailed for clarity and satisfaction of the buyer. NO SURPRISES! I have the original broadcast sheet & some maintenance receipts.
