Vehicle Detail
For sale: My much loved '85 VW Vanagon transporter. I'm moving cross country and can only take my '87 Vanagon and must sell this work van. It has always been a reliable vehicle whether I am driving it around town daily, taking a cross country road trip, or if it sits and is only used a couple times a month -- always starts easily, rain, shine or blizzard. I purchased this van in SW FL in 2003. It had always been a FL car, until I moved to Milwaukee in 2005. The underside is in fantastic rust free condition. I have not noticed any rust except the few spots that are shown in the photos -- mainly surface rust, the only hole being at the footwell at the drivers door and an easy fix. This van is SOLID. You will notice a long dent across the passenger side -- I did that in 2003 on the lift gate of a moving van. As it didn't impact the use of the sliding door, I simply never got around to fixing it. All doors and windows are water tight still. The window seals are old. 4 newish tires with lots of tread life left. Shocks seem to be in good shape too. The OD and speedometer have not worked in years. Perhaps its just a new speedo cable that is needed. When I purchased the vehicle in 2003, it was with the understanding that the engine had been rebuilt about 15,000 miles prior. I have used it mainly for my local work commuting except for couple trips from WI to the East Coast, so I'm guessing that I have put between 25K- 35K on it since I bought the van. The engine still runs strong. Work done:2004:The clutch Slave cylinder was replaced. Transmission was worked on in '04 inc. new pilot bearing, crankshaft seal, release bearing, pressure plate and disc. Also 4 CV joints and Alternator.2007:1 wheel cylinder and brake drum. New plugs, rotor, distributor cap and fuel filter2008:passenger side rear axle shaft replacednew throttle cable, coolant hose, passenger side upper ball joint2009:driver side rear axle replacedreplaced muffler and tailpipe4 new tires2010:rear left wheel cylinder replaced, brake system was cleaned and new fluid regular oil changes with semi-synth 10w40 Known issues:blower motor blows fuse, motor needs to be replaced in order to workThere is a blaupunt removable face cassette deck in the dash that may work, but I haven't used it in years. Muffler is in good condition but the manifold is aging, has a few holes -- should be replacedLooses some antifreeze when it sits but does not seem to loose much when driving long distance though. It has never overheated on me. My mechanic has not found the source of leaking, may be a hose, connection, at one of the heads... still a mystery, so I just check the antifreeze level regularly. past service records will be included. Drive as is, restore, add a subaru engine... Buyer is responsible for pick up, taxes, title, dealing with emissions and other state requirements... Vehicle is sold as is, where is. Good luck bidding on this great little van. ps The middle row seat is also included with the purchase of this vehicle On Aug-14-11 at 12:52:46 PDT, seller added the following information: One last thing I forgot to mention is that the shift lever bushing is a bit worn -- I am completely used to the fact that you can put it in reverse as easily as first. You just need to be aware of this when first driving the vehicle, after that the shifting becomes second nature. Should be a very easy fix, but one that I have never found to be necessary.
