Vehicle Detail

1950 Chrysler 'Traveler' 4 door sedan. An extremely rare vehicle. Total production in 1950 was only 900 cars. All were based on a 4 door Windsor sedan. Unique to these cars were folding rear seats that folded flat, thereby gaining access to the entire rear of the car from trunk up to rear of front seat. Spare tire was then moved to inside area next to rear seat in special carry case with strap. All came in same two-tone color scheme of tan bottom with dark brown top. Exclusive interior was all 'Tolex' imitation alligator hide on seats and door panels throughout. Cars were equipped with 6 cylinder engines and fluid drive semi-automatic transmissions. Also came with the very rare wood/chrome roof rack for extra carrying space. Very similiar to the 'Woody's' Chrysler made. The idea was a station wagon carryall in a 4 door sedan. Last known remaining are less than 5 .This particular car was fully restored with new original paint, all new chrome , Firestone WWW tires, etc while maintaining its all original Tolex interior. Based on condition, mileage seems to be original. Car was in the Sterling McCall Museum in Round Top, Texas for many years, then purchased by the St. Louis Car Museum, where I purchased it along with several other vehicles. All museum cars require regular maintenance since they are rarely driven, and upon receipt here in North Carolina, was taken to a local restoration shop for maintenance/repairs/etc. Upon inspection all new wheel cylinders were replaced along with new brake shoes. All brake hoses were fine. Complete engine tune-up, new plugs/distributor/oil change/filter/rebuilt carburetor,& drain and flush gas tank for any sediment. New NOS windshield washer jar and tubing. Drain and flush radiator with new hoses. Install new rear package shelf with NOS Tolex material, & new Tolex front door armrests. New leather spare tire strap, new NOS brake/safety clutch/ accelerator pedals. Restored steering wheel to replace original cracked one ($800), new exhaust system with Chrysler extension, etc.4 new NOS shock absorbers just installed, along with reconditioned electric clock(keeps excellent time), and new NOS fuel gauge. Original owners manual, and complete service literature in glove box NOS. Vehicle runs and shifts as expected, but 1. Fuel gauge not working,so fuel sender unit should be replaced, and there is a rattling noise upon acceration from engine, possible valve adjustment? needed after many years in several museums. Otherwise car is superb example, and best of only 5 remaining. Delivery of my 1957 Pontiac next week necessitates it has to go. Will accept reasonable offers on this car.Collector Car values #1 @ $26,750, and #2 @ $19,500 FYI., I'm not aware of any better than this one, and rarity has to be #1 since only 900 were produced 60 years ago! Car is now ready for show and go. Finest one still available .
