Vehicle Detail
1967 CLASSIC, 289 BRONCO The bronco for auction here has a great body. It is Nevada vehicle. The dry Nevada Desert preserved it well. This is probably the best way to buy a classic car; with seasoned paint to show that no rust has been temporarily covered up (or it would have come back by now). You can see, no rot is evident on any of the outer body panels. The body panels are straight with only minimal small dings in the otherwise perfect sheet metal. The largest ding is on the drivers rocker panel and is approx 3” long. I looked under the carpet in front and there is a small angle steel reinforcement tacked on to the very front seam beneath the pedals, but other than that I don’t see any holes whatsoever. Under the carpet in the rear, I looked around the wheel wells and same thing, solid metal. It’s pretty hard to find a bronco that isn’t full of rust. The paint only appears to be one layer. Although the paint is not new and has small chips here and there, it still has some shine to it as you can see in the photographs. A color sand and buff would probably really bring it out. The dash is also blue, as are the interior bed sides, wheel wells and floor. In the engine bay, please look at the inner fenders and you will see that they do not have the big rot holes typical of most early broncos. The engine bay is also blue. The doors are the correct style with detachable window frames for ’67. Folding windshield with the right latches for connecting to the hood. Argent painted grill (Sport option) with the correct chrome trim of headlight rings, grill emblems, and grill surround trim. Chrome front bumper with bumperette garnishes Other exterior chrome specific to Sport models: Fenders are complete with nostalgic 289 insignia, and Bronco Sport emblems. Sport emblem on driver side is a new one. Chrome Sport door mirror on driver door. The bracket for the license plate was chrome plated a couple of months ago. Latch on rear gate is chrome and rear bumper too. The windows on the sides have the bright aluminum trim. The trim on the top is all there too. Speaking of the top, it shows well but does have some corrosion beginning in the seams. Probably wouldn’t take much to eliminate it at this point. Top feels very sound structurally. There are a few minor dings on the top panel of the roof, I feel that they are superficial. All terrain 31 inch tires Chrome modular wheels, 15x8 The suspension sits proud with a c-bushing and radius arm bushing kit with dual shocks in the front. It sits pretty level without that snowplow look in front that most have when they aren’t lifted. The front fenders are not been trimmed, rear have fiberglass flares. The engine is 289 cubic inch. Carburetor is stock 2 barrel, cast iron intake, exhaust manifolds. Single exhaust and new muffler. Last week I drove it on a 4 hour trip in the middle of the day in the heat through the desert without any breakdowns. The motor used oil on the trip (3/4 qt). It also has some leaks. (For sure the valve covers should get new gaskets). The ignition is Electronic (no points to change) I feel that the mileage on the odometer is original at approx 14k (my assumption is 114k, the odometers don't show when they go over 100k). The engine ran smoothly on the trip without sputters or hesitation and did not let me down. When I pulled over for refueling in the hottest part of the day, the engine quickly restarted at the turn of the key without any trouble. There was no overheating and I did not see any leaking coolant. The clutch felt good and I didn’t feel any slipping. The locking hubs are Warn models. Still has original 3 on the tree shifter on the steering column. Shifter should get new bushings. There is a new shift boot on the transfer case chrome pushbutton shifter. Before the 4 hour trip, I verified the following on the electrical system: Blinkers all work, front and rear. The hazard/emergency lights are operating and so are the brake lamps. The dash lights work. Headlamps and tail lamps are working. Front markers work. The horn isn’t. The fuel gauge for the rear tank works. Extra range rear fuel tank with 23 gallon capacity by North West Metal Products. Temp gauge works, Oil pressure working, Amp needle works but is out of calibration. Speedo needle has dropped although the odometer works. The wipers work . All of the side glass and the glass in the hardtop is is tinted. No cracks in the glass but the WS has what a bubble in the middle that adds character. It still has the spare tire rack with spare (Spare wheel shows weathering). The rack is operating fine. The liftgate on the top stays in the up position like it is supposed to. The stereo faceplate was lost. The interior is new and was just bolted in about a week ago. There are maybe 20 miles on the new interior. The top has a headliner in it that shows some age but is there. The visors are in good shape (parchment color). The seat brackets have been painted black and the new interior has rebuilt original type front bucket seats with black OXEN material and original looking textured center fabric. There is complete chrome on both front seats. The passenger seat folds and tumbles as original design. The black dash pad was also reupholstered a while back and is in excellent shape. There is a rare piece of chrome trim on the bottom of the dash that I believe was a Sport option. New OXEN black front door panels with same pattern continuing. New OXEN on armrests too. Bench seat in the back has new Oxen upholstery on both cushions and has the right armrest configuration for this year. While the bench was disassembled, the seat bars were repainted in black enamel. The floors are carpeted (not new, show minor wear) to tailgate. Again, I don’t see any holes in the floors or patches other than the small piece of obtuse angled metal at the forward seam (about 3” wide) Although it is not perfect, shows some wear, and is not a flawless show car, in my opinion it is very presentable inside and out.
