Vehicle Detail
1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible Sprint OHC 6 Four Barrel. This is a very rare bird! Last registered in 1990, she had one repaint in the 80's and is ready for paint again. Interior is quite nice but she could use a carpet kit. Previous owner made a few custom trim changes that are easily reversed. She just received a full tune up. The motor purrs like a kitten and scats like a cat when the 4 barrels kick in! No smoke. The 3 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. The original rally gauges look great and work! Did I mention she sips the gas until you tell her not to? The manual convertible top has no rips and is weather tight however, the plastic rear window needs to be replaced. The tires are from the 80's and will need replaced. Two of the four PMD rally center caps are missing; reproductions are now available. This is a fully numbers matching car with the vin number stamped on both the motor and transmission by the factory. The body of this car is quite impressive. There is every indication that all the exterior panels are original to the car and there are no dents. The floors, frame, rockers, cowl and trunk are all rust free and original to the car! There will only be a very small amount of bodywork needed during the restoration of this car. The base of both front fenders have very early stage outer skin rust starting. This is hard to see unless you know what you are looking for. Both rear wheel lips and the lower area just behind the rear wheels have had outer skin rust repair during the 80's repaint. This area still looks very good but, I would expect the work should be redone with a new repaint. Hard to believe a convertible could survive so well over all these years but remember, this car has been off the road since the late 80's save for being started up and rolled around the neighborhood now and again. Odometer shows 42K and is in working condition but, I do not know if the mileage is original. This is a quite rare 68 Firebird Convertible that can be driven and enjoyed in the summer sun now while you make plans for her easy winter restoration. Please feel free to call me with any questions about this car or to request additional pictures. This 1968 Firebird Sprint Convertible has the original number's matching ZD code 250 cubic inch 215 horsepower engine. Thank you cardish for the clarification.
