Vehicle Detail

First, the story behind the car: When I bought this car (on eBay) it was running, but the transmission went out. The transmission mechanic told me third gear welded itself to first gear, so no matter what gear you're in (even reverse), you're also in third. He said it can be rebuilt, but it was more than I wanted to spend. As a testimonial to the quality of a Mercedes, the transmission had been operating for a long time without any transmission fluid, but we didn't know this because it doesn't even have a dipstick. I think it may have had something to do with a previous owner using it for a beach car. Having become a car-shaped-object, it has been parked outside in the hopes we could save some money and turn it back into a car. That was going on four years ago. Since I'm not in the same location as the car, the rest of this is from memory... The good parts: An existing vegetable oil tank - I believe it's a Greasecar kit. One of the lines was cut to get the transmission out, however.New (at the time) from Germany, all four door seals (about $100 each). Also new from the factory, the fork-like linkage at the end of the gear-shifter-column-thingee (about $70). Shifting (on the column, BTW) was very sloppy, due to the old fork not being able to hold its shape. After replacing, you could change gears using only a finger... until third gear re-engineered itself, that is.After-market seat belts (non-retractable), shoulder belts in the front, lap in the back (a few hundred dollars new).Valve adjusting kit (https://mercedessource.com/node/715)Has an alternator instead of the original generator. The bad parts: The transmission (you can't say you haven't been warned!), which is not only a non-functioning collection of highly tuned scrap metal, it is also left in the state it was after being analyzed by the transmission mechanic, which is to say in pieces in a box in the trunk.Since the transmission is no longer in its proper place, the drive shaft is left hanging, so the car must be TRAILERED away, and is NOT TOWABLE.The engine has pretty low compression. It'll get you up to cruising speed, but mountain driving is definitely a leisure activity. Veggie oil will not work at about 40 degrees or below (if you can see your breath). It has a pretty bad body job - lots of Bondo and paint that would rather not stick around. I think every panel except (maybe) the roof has Bondo. The interior was redone with the same level of quality (sic) - you can see from the pictures where the glue is coming undone.I also notice from the picture that one of the chrome pieces around the headlight is missing. It was there when we parked it, so not sure what happened to it. Hopefully it's in the trunk with the rest of the stuff. I'll find out and update the listing. The particulars: The car is parked at a family property in Idaho that is beyond my geographical limitations. If you have questions about the current state of anything, they will need to be relayed through me to the family members at the location. The clear title is with the car and ready for immediate transfer. If you're only looking for some parts without the whole car, you still get the whole car and MUST come ready to trailer the car away to receive the title.
