Vehicle Detail
1963 Galaxie 500 XL Convertible 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Convertible. Previous owners had not used it in 8-10 years. It sat in storage until they retired and moved to Florida. They decided it could not go with them. It runs , stop and steers , but it is not quite road worthy. Lots of work has been done recently. New spark plugs , wires , cap , rotor , distributor , coil , points, Holley carb. , rebuilt starter , oil and filter. I removed the gas tank , had it cleaned and replaced the fuel line from the tank to the carb. When I got the car it did not run , even after all this work was done. I found the resistor wire from the ignition to the coil was bad. I replaced the damaged wires and installed a ballist resistor. The engine fired right up. I am including a new resistor wire , but it starts and runs fine without it. The engine now runs strong and does not smoke or make any "bad" noises. The vin # indicates it came with a 352ci and 2 barrel , but it has a factory 4 barrel intake. I can not confirm if the engine has been swapped or just the intake manifold. I think it would run better with a factory 4 barrel carb. , so I am including one with the car. I recently purchased it on ebay , but I have not installed it. I replaced the front wheel cylinders , soft brake lines and some of the hard brake lines. It now stops good , but it is 4 wheel manual drums. After all this , It was ready to take for a ride. Engine runs good , brake pedal feels good , power steering is tight ..............trans slips in low. I had enough. May need to be serviced.? , but I have gone as far as I can with this project. The body is very solid. No rust in the fenders , floors , rockers or frame. One small spot on the bottom of the drivers door and some bubbling in the drivers lower 1/4 panel. There is some blistering in the paint under the side trim. The trunk does have a couple holes and is soft in spots. I would put a new pan in , but it could be patched. The paint is base / clear and still looks good from 20 feet. The hood must have been repaired and repainted at some point. The color is a little "off" from the rest of the car. The power top is near perfect and goes up and down with no problems. All trim and stainless is there and decent , except the passenger front fender spear. It is a bit mangled. Bumpers are very straight and appear to have been replaced , but are starting to pit. The interior needs the most attention , but everything is available. The carpet was removed. The dash has some cracks and splits. The front seats need recovered and someone cut holes in the front door panels for speakers. All in all this is a very solid car and with some work it could be on the road in no time. You could drive and enjoy it and do a little at a time. We all can't dish out 25-30 grand at once. It came to me with a continental kit , which I removed 20 minutes after getting home. I think it is ugly on this car , but it goes with it. The mag wheels and tires are not included with the car , but may be negotiated after teh auction is over. It will come with stock steel wheels and wheel covers. I am sure I forgot something , so please ask any and all questions before bidding. Vehicle is being sold AS IS , with no warranty. I do have a clear New Jersey title. It indicates only 2 previous owners and mileage of 43955 as of 02-13-1998. I can not guarantee current mileage as actual. I may be able to assist in local delivery , but winning bidder must assume responsibility for paying for and arranging shipping. Title and vehicle will not be released until full payment is received. A $500 payment is due within 24 hours of auction end through paypal. I suggest seeing the vehicle in person before bidding. Thanks , Chris 215-852-8869. No text messages.
