Vehicle Detail
Motor The motor is the original F head 134, and runs strong. There are no knocks, noises or issues. In the photo of the engine compartment, the air cleaner is not seen. A serviceable original air cleaner, oil bath cup and carburetor cap. NOT included is the rubber crossover tube which goes between the carb and the air cleaner. The radiator is not original to the jeep. The only underhood issue is that the lower radiator hose will need replacement soon. Included in this auction is a universal flex hose and a molded elbow hose for the radiator. The jeep does not run hot. I replaced the exhaust from the manifold back to the tail pipe when I bought this jeep. It is of the correct style, with a New Old Stock CJ Muffler used. Transmission and Transfer case The transmission is the original T-90 and the transfer case is a T-18. Both work well. The transmission does not pop out of gear and the transfer case shifts well. Fluid in both was changed. There is one issue with the transfer case. The boss that retains the parking brake actuator is broken. The auction comes with a used take off casting in serviceable condition that can be used to fix this problem. The remainder of the internal drum parking brake is intact. Brakes and Axles The front axle is equipped with lockout hubs. I took them apart, cleaned and reinstalled them, they work perfectly. I rebuild all brake wheel cylinders and the master cylinder and installed a new brake light switch. I also installed new flexible brake lines on the front axle and steel lines on the front and rear axle. The flexible brake hose for the back axle was not changed, but a new one comes with the auction. I also repacked the bearings on all four wheels and installed new seals. Included with this auction are two new outer seals for the rear axle. I changed the fluid in both axles. This jeep stops well and tracks straight under breaking. There is no pull left or right. Lights and Wiring The turn signals (original), brake lights, head lights and running lights work well. The wiring for the lights was checked and replaced. Keyed ignition switch is new after market replacement, and comes with two keys. I disassembled and cleaned the headlight switch, it works well. Tub (body) I applied the 33070 OD green paint. This is the WWII OD Green, and not correct for this jeep. Correct for this jeep, from the factory was Duck Egg Green which is evident under the dash, then applied was a gloss OD green which is evident in the engine compartment. before applying the current paint, I wire wheeled all the known rust areas and applied rust inhibiting paint. There is rust in the hat channels, and a few spots in the tub. Namely, some under the passenger side fuel tank, a small amount on both fenders and fender steps, and on each side of the tub at the seam in the door openings. There is also a bit of rust on the right hand front top bow pocket. That said, the tub is actually rock solid, and is among the best tubs on any flat fender Jeep I've personally looked at. When the passenger side fuel tank was out, the floor would support the full weight of a person without flexing at all. Despite the rust, the tub is solid and has no issues in need of immediate repairs. The original speedometer (indicating the correct 90,xxx miles) broke and was replaced by me with a used take out speedometer with a lower indicated mileage. The original speedometer, is included in this auction. There are speedometer shops which can be repaired by a qualified repairman. The heater in the jeep is factory but I do not know if it works. The jeep has been modified while in service with two fuel tanks. I disassembled and cleaned the tank switch. It is reinstalled and works well. The driver's side tank is new repro. The passenger side tank, which was originally modified by the Army (paint layers indicate that the tank mods, as well as the body mod date to the early days of the jeep) has been cleaned, repaired, sealed and reinstalled. It is tested and does not leak. The civilian VIN tag under the hood, shift plate and Military data tags on the dash are present, original, match and are in good condition. The vehicle has a clear MD title in my name. It is licensed as a Historic Vehicle in the state of Maryland. It is road worthy, and can be test driven upon inspection. I am not the original owner of this vehicle, and therefore, only know a very limited amount of the history of the vehicle. feel free to contact me with your questions. I can send additional photos by request, as well as videos of the jeep running and driving. You are welcome to come inspect this vehicle in person prior to the end of the auction.
