Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my white 1977 Porsche 911S Targa. It is a true California car (with its original classic blue CA license plates) as the two previous owners kept and drove it in California until I bought it in 2008; I am the third owner. Since I've owned the car, I have tried to validate the 911's history and have not found too much. Besides its 911 family legacy, this car doesn't have much of a history. For those truly interested in this car, you should know that this car is NOT a beauty queen but is true to what Ferry Porsche intended - a sportscar with a timeless presence. If you are a passionate 911 fanatic, you can transform its potential into a stunning showstopper. When I bought the car in 2008 I had the desire to restore it but life didn't allow my plans to materialize. Due to major life plans, the 911 must go to a new home. Though the car was in California for most of its 34-year life, it is now garaged, titled (which is clean and clear), registered, inspected, and insured in San Antonio, Texas. I do drive it every so often and religiously keep it out of the elements. The car is solid and without any cancer - anywhere - pans/panels/pillars - all good. It has 288K miles on the chassis, but the engine likely has much less. I don't know specifically how much less but a previous owner did swap the original magnesium 2.7L engine for a more reliable and powerful 3.0L from an '83 911SC. The engine was also upgraded with an airbox pop-off valve, lower Turbo valve covers, oil-fed Carrera chain tensioners, and a front fender mounted Carrera oil cooler. The engine leaks and burns oil a bit, but definitely not a show stopper. The 3.0 starts instantly and runs strong... the car is a blast to drive. An A/C system is also on board - minus the compressor - thus does not work. The exterior, interior, and targa top are okay and need TLC. The 915 tranny shifts fine and the car has power windows. Exterior - 6 out of 10 - Good glass; targa top shows some aging but functionally fine; worn paint with some luster; some minor door dings and small dents; average bondo repair to front pass-side fender (best to replace fender). Again, no cancerous rust but some minor SURFACE rust lives near the battery tray. Interior - 4 out of 10 - Most gauges work, including clock (speedo/odo work but tripmeter doesn't; oil level gauge flutters [bad sender?]); Alpine AM/FM/CD; seats/panels/carpet worn (driver's seat should be replaced or rebuilt); dash pad cracked Drivetrain - 6 out of 10 - 3.0L aluminum block engine from '83 911SC (#64D2993; upgraded w/ Carerra oil-fed chain tensioners and oil cooler in front pass-side fender; airbox pop-off valve; Turbo lower valve covers); engine starts up fast, idles well, and runs strong; 915 transmission shifts fine; Despite my efforts to obtain it, I have no maintenance history to offer I must sell this car - period. Please bid only if you are serious in buying it. By placing a bid, you agree to the following terms - A $500 non-refundable deposit is required, via PayPal, within 3 days after the end of the auction; the remaining balance is due within 10 days after the end of the auction. The buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for all shipping/transportation costs associated with buying this car. The buyer will pick up or have the car picked up between 11-20 June 2011. These are the only days I will be in San Antonio (due to major life change). Though my stipulations are a little unusual, I assure you the transaction is completely legit - I am being completely honest. If you have doubt, please refer to my Ebay reputation or contact me. Please feel free to ask questions, if they arise. Good luck! Paul
