THE OVERVIEW Offered for an appreciating new owner is this rare classic 1979 Mercedes Benz 450SL roadster with two tops! With approximately 129,000 original miles, finished in the rare original light baby blue color [I personally have never seen one in this color combo] over navy MB Tex interior, this classic SL features a 99.99% perfectly rust-free body, both factory hard and soft tops, 4.5 liter V8 engine mated to a 4 speed automatic transmission, four-wheel disk brakes, alloy wheels with brand new rubber, electric windows and Clarion am/fm/cassette stereo. There are no signs of any corrosion on the body though I do not want to say 100% just to keep it real. This is most definitely NOT a rusty car! The paint has received respray in areas and is also NOT a concourse-quality refinish with some definite fisheyes in the paint surface. It is what I would describe as a VERY PRESENTABLE "ten-footer"! The factory hardtop as well as all of the chrome and trim are in quite good original condition throughout. The, what appears to be the factory original, canvas soft top has yellowing to the rear plastic window & tears along the vertical seams. There are a few small cosmetic blemishes here and there as would be expected of a 30+ year-old car. Did I say this was a RUST-FREE CAR? I believe I did! THE INTERIOR The interior of this Benz is EXCELLENT overall. The navy MB Tex seating is very nice as are the door panels, carpeting & rear bench area. Even inside the rear boot [with original spare tite and wheel, carpeting and tool pouch] is very nice and original. The dash covering shows some minor heat cracking near the windshield. All gauges work inside the car. The stereo works though the power antenna is not raising. The climate control is not functioning. The electric windows, lights, blinkers all work well. THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE This classic 450SL starts runs and drives fairly well. The engine produces smooth powerful acceleration, the brakes stop well with good pedal feel. The car drives down the road with a quite solid overall feel with a bit of looseness in the suspension components. THE DETAILS AND $$$$$$ 1.
