Vehicle Detail
Selling my 1968 mustang fastback. I don't know the entire story of this car but I often wondered if the car had some shelby parts transplanted to the car early in its life. Here is why I say that. This car started life as a 1968 mustang fastback. It was a C code 289-2V, 3spd transmission and was a T code candy apple red with black interior car. When I bought the car years ago it was painted solid white with almost grabber blue lemans stripes on it. The car had a 67 shelby front clip on it. I have no idea if it is aftermarket or factory. The scoops in the quarters were also on the car. Everything matched though and it was all solid white so those parts had been on the car for years. The car had aluminum slots with polyglass tires. Everyone knows that polyglass tires have not been sold for years, well not intentionally anyway. There as a rainbow decal in the back window and the car had a sunroof in it. Yep, I said a sunroof, again that has not been popular in years. More proof. The door panels, kick panels and the trap door were all done in diamond tuck, if that is not old school I have no idea what is. The motor has a shelby intake on it. I just recently put a new fuel pump in it and a holley 600 with an electric choke. The gas smelled like varnish and took a little to get it to run. Car does run and drive though. I was having a problem with the float level changing on me but I just put the fuel pump in it, the thinking was that the old fuel pump was messed up from the bad gas. I have not had time to run it yet and see if that cured the problem but will continue to work on it but wanted to get the car listed today. The car also had a toploader 4spd installed and it had a hurst indy shifter in it. I just recently removed the indy shifter and put a hurst competition plus shifter in it. They also removed the 8" rear end and it has a 9" rear end in it, not sure of the gears but I am guessing it is highway gears because it is not much out of the hole but once moving it goes pretty good. The car has headers on it but they are starting to get thin from sitting for years. The exhaust dumps before the rear end. They had also switched the dash to the 67 brushed aluminum dash but the chrome must not have been very good because they painted that area crinkle finish black. There was 69 mach 1 buckets and a back seat in the car when I got it but I picked up a set of the deluxe 67 buckets and put those in it. I also have a set of used deluxe door panels for a 67 and new carpeting. I don't have the door panels or carpeting in it but will try to get that done this week and when I do I will update the pictures but they do come with the car. I also have a correct back seat just have to dig it out. The car does have a fold down seat in it. I bought the trunk lid, end caps, tail light panel, tail lights, bezels, decent factory shelby pop open gas cap, all the emblems for the outside for a 67 shelby GT350, have a wiring harness from a 67 cougar with the sequential box for the tail lights. I put the torque thrust wheels and radial tires on it. I have driven the car 20 miles without a problem but after that the car has been sitting again for over a year. The underside of the car is very strong. The pictures will show how nice it is underneath. These pictures that I am going to attach are with the shelby trunk lid and end caps on it but not completely fitted and as I said I do have the other stuff just not on the car yet but they go with. The car is free of liens and in my name. I am only selling the car because I just worked out a deal to purchase a different car and need the money to finish paying for the other car. I realize this car needs to be finished but can be driven as is. It is hard to find a old mustang that does not need any floor pan, torque box or frame rail work and you can see this car is very nice underneath. The shock towers are rust free as are the front frame rails. The only spot there is a hint of rust in the engine compartment is three of the four spots where the inner fenders overlap the shock towers there is some rust bubbles but that is typical on these even of southern cars. Rear frame rails are also very nice even between the shackles where they start to rust and split this car is very nice. It would be very easy to finish making this into a 67 shelby GT350 clone or if you wish get the GT500 emblems and put a big block in it but since it already had the 67 shelby with the inboard headlights and shelby intake that was my plan. After done this car would be a very fun ride and you would not have a ton of money into it. Everyone is looking for this body style to make a bullit clone, Elenor clone or just a shelby clone so even for rusted out cars they are bringing good money. A dynacorn body will cost you about 16000 and then you still need a drive train, interior, wiring, and a title. I will probably regret selling this car but need to in order to get the car I just agreed to buy. I feel my reserve and buy it now are very reasonable for a mustang of this body style in this shape with all of the shelby stuff included. Car is sold as is and if you have any questions please ask. Again I am hoping to pull the seats back out this week, put the new carpet in it and maybe even the used deluxe door panels. Not sure if I will try to put the tail light panel and tail lights in it or not but again that is all included with the sale. Again the only reason for the sale and fair price is that I need the money to finish paying for another project car. On May-23-11 at 15:36:00 PDT, seller added the following information: I just installed the new carpeting and took more pictures. I have more pictures that I could not put on here because we are limited to 24 so if there is anything else you would like to see please ask if I don't already have it I can get it. If you look at the pictures closely on the underneath you will see many places where the factory red paint is yet. As I said this car is very solid. when I took the crappy old carpet out there are a couple of spots where the floor was getting some rust from the top from the carpet being wet and sitting like that. I know sometimes the windshield gasket leaks, there are actually a couple of spots where some of the rubber is missing in the gasket. But as you can see from the underside the floors look very nice. I would pull the interior back out and get some rust convertor on it to stop the cancer it would be a shame to see the floors get rusted out. Again, for the price this is a lot of car. Anyone wanting to make a shelby clone this is one of the cheapest ways you will get there. Most of the stuff is there already. I am sure I have a back seat somewhere and I will round that up as well. Currently there is a 69 mach 1 seat under the fold down. If you have any questions please ask. You will find I am very honest and my feedback will also prove that to be true. In case anyone was going to ask. Yes, that is a 1970 cobra in the background. It is a 429scj, automatic car with 4.30 gears. I have the marti report for the car to prove it. It was a yellow car, tinted windows, shaker, buckets, console, tach, racing mirrors, argent wheels, automatic, am/fm stereo, window louvers and 4.30 gear. I do plan to sell that as well. The correct trans and rear end are there with the speedometer reducer, the correct motor, shaker, am/fm and louvers are not there. I do have a running 429 to put in it, has a D1VE-AA block but 72 heads and not the police interceptor heads. I have a shaker scoop but missing the midplate and base. I have the correct finned aluminum valve covers. If anyone is interested I am asking 10000 for the car and if you want pictures please ask.On May-23-11 at 16:47:01 PDT, seller added the following information: Forgot to mention. This car is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if someone local buys it. So please keep that in mind if you are planning on waiting for the end of the auction. I plan to sell this car as quickly as I can so if you have good offers I am listening.
